Today 16/09/26, Fundasaun Mahein (FM) was pleased to welcome COL. Yoshimizu Kentaro, Deputy Director of the Defense Cooperation & Policy Center, Policy Programs Division at Japan Ministry of Defense with his team to FM’s office. The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about FM’s work as a security and defense think-tank organization, exchange information on FM’s activities in the defense sector, and discuss opportunities for defense cooperation between Japan and Timor-Leste.

FM has long raised concerns about the misuse of fi****ms by State security institutions, including incidents involving deaths, serious injuries, and the shooting of civilians’ livestock. In the Suai case, FM calls for a thorough and independent investigation, particularly into the recovery and identification of the victim’s remains, to establish the truth, ensure accountability, and provide justice to the victim and the family.
