Press Statement: Solidarity in Struggle for Self-Determination of the People of Manipur

Dili, 2 October 2024

We, the Komite Esperansa or Committee of Hope, are a political movement consisting of students, precarious youth, landless people and workers in Timor-Leste. During this time, it took a political position against the underdevelopment policy in Timor-Leste which is part of the global economic policy system called imperial capitalism, systematically producing a deep crisis. These crises are ecological crisis, debt crisis, cost of living crisis, mental health crisis and others.

Among these crises, solidarity is also an issue, because the state with its repressive apparatus, continues to limit solidarity from the oppressed people in Timor-Leste to countries such as Papua, Palestine, Sahara, Manipur and others.

However, the Komite Esperansa or Committee of Hope and other allies including human rights activists in Timor-Leste continue to provide solidarity in our own way to the oppressed and exploited people in Papua, Palestine, Sahara, Manipur and others.

Therefore, at the moment we want to give a statement in solidarity with the oppressed and exploited people in Manipur

Kami baru memulai inisiatif dalam bentuk kelompok diskursus mengenai Katolik dan masyarakat di Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) dan Timor Leste. Berita kedatangan Paus Fransiskus di Indonesia, Papua Nugini, Timor Leste, dan Singapura, 3-16 September 2024, menjadi titik awal pertemuan kami secara daring untuk melihat perbedaan dan persamaan aktivisme dalam perspektif Katolik. Kedatangan Paus Fransiskus juga menjadi dorongan untuk umat Katolik Timor Barat dan Timor Leste untuk membicarakan isu pengungsi Timor Timur di Timor Barat dan masa depan hubungan warga Indonesia dengan warga Timor Leste.

Kami mengundang Anda berbagi pandangan mengenai isu-isu yang berkembang terkait kedatangan Paus Fransiskus di Indonesia dan Timor Leste.

📌 Atividade nee halao ho tema “Poets for Palestine and Tribute to Prof. Refaat Alareer”, neebe involve ativista, poeta, edukador, estudante no estudiozu sira hodi halo aprezentasaun kona-ba situasaun atual iha rai opremidu Palestina, maibe mos rai opremidu Sahara Osidental, West Papua, Manipur nst.
