On 26 November 2025, we welcomed a visitor from the DHM Irish Embassy, Ms. Éira McDermott, for an important discussion about our new proposal for next year and additional funding to strengthen our ongoing programs.
The purpose of this meeting was to ensure that Casa Vida continues to provide safe, high-quality, and holistic support for women and children in need.
During the visit, we also toured the Casa Vida Training Centre and Shelter to share more about the work we do. Ms. Éira expressed her happiness and appreciation for the dedication of our team and the impact of our programs.
We are grateful for this opportunity to explore future collaboration and further improve our services for the community.

Casa Vida is committed to conducting campaigns to prevent violence and sexual abuse against timorese women and girls, providing workshops in the areas of preventive and reproductive health for women and personal hygiene, as well workshops on mental health.
Thank to the support of partners such as Polish Aid and Social Investors that our Social Work team, along with our Psychologist, Nurse and Midwife, has been traveling through the districts of Timor-Leste, reaching many students and people from small communities, bringing access to preventive information so that people are guided, empowered and, in a way, become agents of transformation in the community and society in which they are inserted.

Casa Vida works holistically to provide protection and support to each client. Though the support of Polish Aid, we have a nurse and a midwife who provide weekly care and routine checkups for the girls and babies supported by Casa Vida.They also plan workshops for our clients on personal hygiene, women's health, and nutrition.

We are immensely grateful to our partnership with Polish Aid, as together we can offer to our clients routine checkups from the moment they arrive at the shelters, ensuring not only protection but also special care monitoring each client's health.

Dog therapy - animal -assisted therapy (AAT) is very important for children and teenagers who are victims of sexual abuse. It helps them feel safe, calm, and supported through the unconditional affection of the animal. The presence of a therapy dog can reduce anxiety and stress, build trust, and encourage communication during therapy sessions. It also helps restore self-esteem, a sense of control, and emotional stability. Although dog therapy does not replace psychological treatment, it is a valuable complement that supports healing and helps young survivors reconnect with others in a positive and safe way.
The dog therapy can Rebuilding Trust:

Sexual abuse often destroys a young person’s sense of safety and trust. Therapy dogs provide unconditional love and acceptance, which can help children relearn that relationships can be safe. This is crucial in trauma recovery and in forming healthy connections with others later in life.
Studies have shown that animal-assisted therapy:

-Lowers anxiety and depression levels in children with trauma.

-Increases engagement in therapy sessions.

-Improves social functioning and emotional stability over time.

Casa Vida has the honor to receive once a week SUNNY , an especially trained therapy dog, was born in 2023 and just completed his first therapy certification. Sunny 🐕 is making a lot of difference bringing joy and emotional support to the girls in Casa Vida .

"A violência de gênero é uma violação dos direitos humanos, que persiste em muitas partes do mundo, incluindo Timor-Leste."
De acordo com o lançamento do Relatório Anual da ALFeLa para o período 2022-2023, publicado pela Diligente em 18 de agosto de 2025, consta que:

"Mais de mil casos em dois anos: a violência contra mulheres e crianças continua a assolar Timor-Leste.
Entre 2022 e 2023, mais de 1.200 mulheres, crianças e jovens buscaram ajuda jurídica em casos de violência doméstica, violência sexual ou tráfico de pessoas. A ALFeLa alerta: a desigualdade de gênero e a cultura patriarcal continuam a alimentar um ciclo de abuso e impunidade." Em Timor-Leste, a violência contra mulheres e crianças continua inabalável: só entre 2022 e 2023, a Assistência Legal para Mulheres e Meninas (ALFeLa) monitorou mais de 1.200 casos, a maioria dos quais envolvendo violência doméstica e sexual."

According to the launch of ALFeLa's Annual Report for the period 2022-2023, in a report published by Diligente on August 18, 2025, it states:

"More than a thousand cases in two years: violence against women and children continues to plague Timor-Leste.
Between 2022 and 2023, more than 1,200 women, children, and young people sought legal help in cases of domestic violence, sexual violence, or human trafficking. ALFeLa warns: gender inequality and patriarchal culture continue to fuel a cycle of abuse and impunity." In Timor-Leste, violence against women and children continues unabated: between 2022 and 2023 alone, Assistance Legal for Women and girls (ALFeLa) monitored more than 1,200 cases, most of which involved domestic and sexual violence."

During the period of 3 months (July - September 2025) through our programs for Women's Health Education, Casa Vida has offered training on health education to both our Casa Vida clients, and to Dili and district communities in remote areas.
Polish Aid has given us support to promoting Health awareness and empowerment in Timor-Leste.
The trainings offered included:
For our clients - Health Education
For the communities- reproductive health,
family planning, prevention abuse, mental health awareness, hygiene and nutrition workshops.
We distributed brochures to support the training material, and a specific kit to hygiene training.
We also have been providing counselling to our clients and staff. We provide therapy support to members of communities and train interns of psychology, to assist our clients with their traumas caused by abuse.
Also the partnership that we have with the Crystal educational institution has opened doors to allow us to do more prevention training in different districts.
We’ve covered in that past 3 months: 4 districts & held 15 training sessions in 12 communities and 6 schools, totaling 504 people reached.
With heartfelt gratitude, we thank Polish Aid for supporting our health program, and Thank the Crystal educational institution of Dili for their partnership.

Hoje, a Casa Vida teve a grande honra de receber o Embaixador do Brasil🇧🇷, Sr. Ricardo José Lustosa Leal, juntamente com a Ministra Conselheira, Sra. Rita de Cássia Lott Marques.
Estiveram presentes nossa Diretora Executiva, Sra. Alzira Pereira, membros da diretoria do board e voluntários dedicados. Durante a reunião, compartilhamos a missão da Casa Vida — desde a nossa fundação em 2008, atendemos mais de 700 crianças, adolescentes e mulheres sobreviventes de abuso sexual em Timor-Leste.
As discussões destacaram os desafios enfrentados e as muitas iniciativas realizadas para apoiar a reintegração, a recuperação e o desenvolvimento de habilidades que promovem a independência financeira a longo prazo.
O Embaixador também visitou nosso centro de treinamento e abrigo, testemunhando em primeira mão o impacto transformador do trabalho da Casa Vida 🧡

Today, Casa Vida had the great honor of welcoming the Ambassador of Brazil, Mr. Ricardo José Lustosa Leal, together with the Minister Counselor Mrs. Rita de Cássia Lott Marques.
In attendance were our Executive Director, Mrs. Alzira Pereira, members of the board, and dedicated volunteers. During the meeting, we shared Casa Vida’s mission — since our establishment in 2008, we have served more than 700 children, teenagers, and women survivors of sexual abuse in Timor-Leste.
Discussions highlighted the challenges faced and the many initiatives carried out to support reintegration, healing, and skill development that fosters long-term financial independence.
The Ambassador also visited our training center and shelter, witnessing first-hand the life-changing impact of Casa Vida’s work 🧡
