Good Neighbors Timor-Leste met with Her Excellency Dra. Dulce de Jesus Soares, Minister of Education, to explore collaboration in advancing education for children and communities.

From classroom Reading Corners to supporting inclusive and gender-sensitive learning, the discussion highlighted shared priorities in improving access and quality of education.

Both parties also explored future initiatives, including 21st Century Schools and potential cooperation through Gift-in-Kind programs.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to develop a Memorandum of Understanding for future collaboration.

Together, we continue working to create better learning opportunities for children.

Good Neighbors Establishes Official Presence in Timor-Leste

Dili, Timor-Leste – March 5, 2026.
Good Neighbors International officially inaugurated its Timor-Leste office, located at the Palm Business & Trade Centre, marking the organization’s expansion into its 52nd program country. The inauguration ceremony was hosted at Palm Spring Hotel, Dili, and underscored Good Neighbors’ global vision of “Empowering People, Transforming Communities” and its commitment to supporting national development priorities in Timor-Leste.

The event opened with welcome remarks by Mr. D**g Chul Park, Country Director of Good Neighbors de Timor-Leste, who emphasized that the inauguration was not merely the establishment of an office, but the beginning of a long-term commitment to the people of Timor-Leste. He reaffirmed Good Neighbors’ mission to create a world without hunger and outlined GNTL’s initial focus on early education, with plans to expand into youth empowerment, health initiatives, environmental sustainability, and social economy development.

Representing the Government, Mr. Jean Simões dos Santos from the Ministry of Planning and Strategic Investment (Técnico Profissional de Enquadramento Institucional e Coordenação, Unidade de Planeamento Integrado (UPI)) expressed gratitude for GNTL’s partnership and highlighted the importance of aligning organizational initiatives with Timor-Leste’s Strategic Development Plan. He underscored the Ministry’s commitment to continued collaboration that brings lasting benefits to communities across the nation.

Adding to the program, Mr. Ary Purnama Nugraha, Program Manager of Good Neighbors de Timor-Leste, presented a brief introduction to the organization’s program development areas in Timor-Leste. He outlined GNTL’s strategic direction, emphasizing education as the foundation, while also pointing to future interventions in social inclusion, community development, and partnerships with both local and international stakeholders.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of representatives from:
• Ministry of Planning and Strategic Investment
• Ministry of Education
• Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion
• Education Department of Manatuto Municipality
• KOICA Timor-Leste Country Director, Ms. Youn Hwa Kang
• International NGOs including Global Inner Peace and Canaan Global Leadership Center
• Local entities such as Premiu Hakbit Juventude ba Dezenvolvimentu

During the ceremony, GNTL formally introduced its board members as registered in the notary deed:
