The current focus. I am just bringing attention to this.
THIS IS ON A MAIN RIVER. This affects everyone!
Disease, air and water pollution, wildlife, tourism, and Money. Tourists don't like polluted places. Samui is polluted. And that affects our economy, not to mention our health and quality of life.
Location:
Soi 1, Maenam, Koh Samui.
Going to the Municipality tomorrow to ask for help.
Trash Hero cleaned this up soon after the first video. It is now worse than I have ever seen. 12 years.
I am not trying to cause trouble. But this is unacceptable.
The trash has now expanded nearby. A new "Dump". On the river. Water tanks are filling up at the dump site (at the river). Unbelievably, water companies are collecting drinking water from this area.
All trash is burned frequently. A major health hazard. Air, water, soil, and the river.
I will try to update as we go.
1st video: February, 2026 burned every week or so.
2nd video: July, 2024
UPDATE: April 28, 2026
From my Thai friend who communicated everything in Thai today.
Thank you, Thank you!
"We have presented our materials to the municipality, including suggestions for the Maenam Soi 1 area, along with photos of the trash problem.
Office #1 (Municipality): The municipality has officially received the documents.
Office #2 (Sanitation Engineering Department): They have stepped in to help with this issue, but several problems still remain. For example, we discovered that a local influential figure owns land where he charges 300 Baht per truckload of trash to be dumped. The land is located along the main road, and now the trash has overflowed onto the road. The entire area has become a dumping ground, including land owned by another person near the river. In all cases, the trash is being burned to allow for more dumping. Additionally, water trucks are filling their tanks near the trash piles.
They also showed us how to report problems (I will post this separately) on the island, and we hope to see results soon. We sincerely hope that the municipality will begin to take the waste problem on Koh Samui seriously.
Our team (Trash Hero) would like to express our sincere gratitude. We are a non-profit organization with no intention of seeking any personal gain. We truly hope that Samui will become cleaner and more beautiful in the future."
