On December 15, 2025, the Regional Irrigation Office 10 (RIO 10) of the Royal Irrigation Department together with INWEPF-THAILAND launched a campaign to promote Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) rice farming at the "Suk Tem Na RIO10@Thung Bang K*m" model plot in Saraburi Province. Led by RIO10 Director Ong-art Saen-ubon and INWEPF-THAILAND chairman Dr. Watchara Suiadee, this initiative aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives' policy to reduce water consumption, increase agricultural yields, and mitigate global warming through carbon credit mechanisms. The event featured lectures on expanding AWD practices, demonstrations on low-carbon fertilizers, and collaborative planting activities designed to educate farmers and network partners on enhancing water productivity.
The project utilizes a 50-rai model plot to demonstrate modern farming techniques, aiming to replace traditional flooded farming across the 83,400-rai Thung Bang K*m area and eventually the wider 2.5 million rai under RIO 10's management. By employing a "market-led, innovation-supplemented" strategy, the department aims to triple farmers' income by creating a unique brand for global export and generating additional revenue through carbon credits. Ultimately, this shift to AWD seeks to maximize irrigation efficiency and water productivity.

INWEPF-Thailand เตรียมนำคณะผู้แทนไทยเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมของ INWEPF ซึ่งจัดขึ้นในระหว่างการประชุมชลประทานโลกครั้งที่ 4 (WIF4) และการประชุมคณะกรรมการบริหารระหว่างประเทศครั้งที่ 76 (IEC) ณ กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ประเทศมาเลเซีย ระหว่างวันที่ 7-13 กันยายน 2568 โดยได้รับความร่วมมือจากคณะกรรมการชลประทานและระบายน้ำแห่งชาติมาเลเซีย (MANCID) โดยมีรายละเอียดดังนี้

คณะกรรมการ INWEPF ประเทศญี่ปุ่น จัดงาน Side Event ในวันที่ 9 กันยายน 2568 เวลา 14:00 - 15:30 น. ภายใต้หัวข้อ "การเร่งให้การทำนาข้าวมีความยืดหยุ่น ยั่งยืน และมีประสิทธิภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น" (Accelerating More Resilient, Sustainable and Productive paddy farming)

คณะกรรมการ INWEPF ประเทศเกาหลี จัดงาน Side Event การประชุมเชิงปฏิบัติการของคณะทำงาน INWEPF (WG-2) ซึ่งจัดขึ้นโดยความร่วมมือกับคณะกรรมการชลประทานและระบายน้ำแห่งชาติเกาหลี (KCID) ในวันที่ 10 กันยายน 2568 เวลา 14:00 - 15:30 น. ภายใต้หัวข้อ "การปรับปรุงระบบชลประทานให้ทันสมัยเพื่อรับมือกับเหตุการณ์สภาพภูมิอากาศที่ผิดปกติ" (Modernization of Irrigation Systems in Response to Abnormal Climate Events)

INWEPF-Thailand is preparing to participate in INWEPF activities during the 4th World Irrigation Forum (WIF4) and the 76th International Executive Council (IEC) Meeting. The events will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 7-13, 2025, in cooperation with the Malaysian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (MANCID). Here are the details of the scheduled events:

The INWEPF Japan Committee will host Side Event 3 on September 9, 2025, from 14:00 to 15:30. The theme of the event is "Accelerating More Resilient, Sustainable and Productive paddy farming."

The INWEPF Korea Committee, in collaboration with the Korean National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (KCID), will host the INWEPF WG-2 Workshop on September 10, 2025, from 14:00 to 15:30. The theme is "Modernization of Irrigation Systems in Response to Abnormal Climate Events."

The Fourth World Irrigation Forum (WIF4), together with the 76th International Executive Council (IEC) Meeting, will be held from 7-13 September 2025 in Kual...

RID Promotes Collaboration on AWD and Carbon Credits to Reduce Methane Emissions from Rice Fields

On March 14, 2025 at Dr. Watchara Suiadee, Irrigation Engineering Expert (Maintenance), on behalf of the Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, chaired a meeting to discuss cooperation on Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) and carbon credit initiatives.

The meeting focused on exchanging approaches for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane from rice cultivation, through the implementation of AWD—a method that also reduces agricultural water use. In addition, the feasibility of developing a carbon credit project was discussed, aiming to benefit local communities and improve water use efficiency. GreenCarbon Inc. from Japan expressed their readiness to support the initiative.

เมื่อวันที่ 7 มีนาคม 2568 ดร.นพดล โค้วสุวรรณ์ รองผู้อำนวยการสำนักงานชลประทานที่ 11 กรมชลประทาน ในฐานะคณะอนุกรรมการและประธานคณะทำงาน Working Group 3 ของคณะอนุกรรมการด้านน้ำและระบบนิเวศในนาข้าว ประเทศไทย (INWEPF-THAILAND) ลงพื้นที่ ศูนย์ข้าวชุมชนสวนแตง หมู่ 4 บ้านสวนแตง ตำบลสวนแตง อำเภอเมืองสุพรรณบุรี จังหวัดสุพรรณบุรี ซึ่งอยู่ในเขตพื้นที่ โครงการส่งน้ำและบำรุงรักษาโพธิ์พระยา
ในการลงพื้นที่ครั้งนี้ ได้มีการศึกษาข้อมูลจาก นายพิชิต เกียรติสมพร ผู้นำกลุ่มเกษตรกร เกี่ยวกับแนวทาง การทำนาแบบเปียกสลับแห้ง และ การขายคาร์บอนเครดิต ซึ่งเป็นแนวทางที่ช่วยเพิ่มรายได้ให้แก่เกษตรกร และสามารถขยายผลไปสู่กลุ่มเกษตรกรอื่น ๆ ได้ในอนาคต

On March 7, 2025, Dr. Noppadon Kowsuvon, Deputy Director of Regional Irrigation Office 11, Royal Irrigation Department, in his capacity as a Subcommittee Member and Chair of Working Group 3 of the Subcommittee on International Network for Water and Ecosystems in Paddy Fields (Thailand), visited the Suan Taeng Community Rice Center in Moo 4, Ban Suan Taeng, Suan Taeng Subdistrict, Mueang Suphan Buri District, Suphan Buri Province. The visit took place within the Pho Phraya Irrigation Operation and Maintenance Project area.
During the visit, he gathered insights from Mr. Phichit Kiatsomporn, a local farmer leader, on the alternate wetting and drying (AWD) rice farming method and carbon credit trading. These approaches help increase farmers' income and can serve as a model for wider adoption by other farming communities in the future.

Royal Irrigation Department Attends the National Inception Event for the Thai Rice: Strengthening Climate-Smart Rice Farming Project

Today (February 26, 2025), Dr. Watchara Suiadee, an expert in irrigation engineering (maintenance) from the Royal Irrigation Department (RID), attended the National Inception Event for the Thai Rice: Strengthening Climate-Smart Rice Farming Project at the Eastin Grand Phayathai Hotel, Bangkok. He participated in the event as Vice President of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and Chairman of INWEPF-Thailand (International Network for Water and Ecosystem in Paddy Fields – Thailand).

The project aims to transform Thailand’s rice farming practices by promoting climate-smart rice farming, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and enabling farmers to integrate climate-resilient agricultural technologies into their farm management effectively. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to drive the sector towards carbon neutrality and ultimately achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the future.
