🌾 Learning, Growing, and Giving Back

Yao, a 20-year-old student from Mae Chaem District, grew up in a farming family where hard work and perseverance were part of everyday life. Today, he is studying Hotel Management through the High Vocational Certificate Programme at Chiang Mai Vocational College, while continuing to build the skills and confidence needed for his future.

Known for his friendly personality and willingness to help others, Yao is often the person friends turn to when a motorcycle needs repairing or a household item stops working. He enjoys learning practical skills and putting them to good use.

During the recent school break, Yao returned home to spend time with his family and help on the farm. From maintaining irrigation channels and planting crops to fishing and assisting with daily household tasks, he worked alongside his parents and contributed wherever he could.

For Yao, returning home is not only an opportunity to reconnect with family, but also a chance to put into practice the values of responsibility, hard work, and service to others.

His story is a reminder that education is about more than academic achievement. It is also about developing the character, skills, and confidence to support family, contribute to the community, and build a better future.

✨ Bright Smiles, Creative Hands, and Big Dreams

Hom, a 19-year-old student from the Tai Yai (Shan) community, recently joined Skills 4 Life Foundation and is currently studying Marketing at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.

Like many of our students, Hom comes from a hardworking family facing significant economic challenges. Despite their determination and effort, access to higher education and opportunities for a brighter future would have been difficult without additional support.

Now entering her second year of university, Hom is pursuing a degree in Marketing with the goal of building new opportunities for herself and creating a more secure future.

During the recent school break, she returned home to spend time with her family and help her mother create handmade elephant-themed keychains sold in the local community. Through this experience, she gained a deeper appreciation for the creativity, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit that exist within her family and community.

Hom's story is a reminder that talent and ambition can be found everywhere. With access to education, encouragement, and opportunity, young people can develop the skills and confidence needed to create lasting change for themselves, their families, and their communities.

🎨⚽ Different Talents, Same Opportunity

One dreams with coloured pencils.

The other dreams with a football.

Bodinthat, age 10, loves to draw. From a very young age, he has filled pages with colours, ideas, and stories of the world around him. Today, he is developing his artistic skills through formal art classes, learning from experienced teachers and growing in confidence with every lesson.

Purich, age 13, finds his passion on the football field. Through regular training, he is developing not only his technical ability, but also discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and self-belief.

Their interests could not be more different, yet their stories are remarkably similar. Both come from families facing financial hardship. Both have shown exceptional dedication to what they love. And both deserve the chance to develop their talents and pursue their dreams.

This year, we made the unusual decision to support these two younger boys, even though our programmes typically focus on older students pursuing vocational, technical, and university education. Their passion, commitment, and potential made it clear that they deserved an opportunity to grow.

Talent comes in many forms. Sometimes it is found in a sketchbook. Sometimes it is found on a football field.

Every child is different, but every child deserves the chance to discover what they can become.

🏠 Living, Learning, and Growing Together

At Skills 4 Life Foundation, around 30 young people from different backgrounds, cultures, and communities live together while pursuing their education in Chiang Mai. They come from Thai, ethnic minority, and Shan communities, each arriving with their own dreams and aspirations for the future.

While providing access to education is a central part of our mission, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom and living together in a shared community teaches valuable lessons in responsibility, respect, communication, and independence, skills that will benefit our students throughout their lives.

One important part of dormitory life is our regular community meetings, where new students are welcomed and introduced to their peers, helping to build friendships and create a supportive environment. These meetings also provide an opportunity to discuss important topics such as personal safety, curfews, communication, community responsibilities, and the guidelines that help everyone live together respectfully and safely.

Under the guidance of our dedicated team, students learn not only how to succeed in their studies, but also how to become responsible, reliable, and caring young adults. Families can take comfort in knowing that their children are part of a supportive community while pursuing their educational goals.

At Skills 4 Life Foundation, we are building more than educational opportunities, we are building a community where young people can learn, grow, and thrive together. 💙

🌸 Learning, Living Together, and Growing with Respect

Song, a student supported by Skills 4 Life Foundation, comes from the Akha ethnic community in Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai and is currently studying Food & Nutrition at Chiang Mai Vocational College.

With a passion for cooking, Song enjoys putting her skills into practice and was one of the students who helped prepare our Christmas cookies during the holiday season. Her enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to contribute make her a valued member of our community.

Living together with students from different backgrounds has also given Song opportunities to learn important life lessons beyond the classroom. Although she comes from a Christian family and regularly attends church, she has developed a deep appreciation for different cultures and traditions through friendships with students of various faiths.

Recently, Song joined her college friends in attending the Inthakhin Festival at Wat Chedi Luang in Chiang Mai, an important Lanna cultural celebration. Wearing traditional northern Thai attire, she participated respectfully in the festivities and experienced firsthand one of the region’s most cherished traditions.

By living, learning, and growing together, our students develop respect, understanding, and the ability to thrive in a diverse society. These experiences help prepare them to become compassionate and responsible young adults who value both their own heritage and the perspectives of others.

🩺 A Future Nurse in the Making

For many students at Skills 4 Life Foundation, school breaks are a time to reconnect with family, contribute to their communities, and gain valuable real-world experience. For Rose, this year’s break became an opportunity to take an important step toward her future career.

Rose, a Grade 10 student in the Science–Mathematics Programme, comes from a Karen farming family in Mae Chaem District. Since Grade 7, she has dreamed of becoming a nurse, and during this school break she pursued that dream through a two-week internship at a local community health center.

During her placement, Rose assisted with a variety of tasks, including supporting patient record systems, organizing medicines and supplies, helping with health screening activities, and accompanying staff on home visits to elderly patients. These experiences gave her a firsthand look at the important role healthcare workers play in supporting their communities.

Not content to stop there, Rose also spent part of her school break working with her local Subdistrict Administrative Organization, where she gained additional experience in administration, record-keeping, and community services.

When Rose returned to the foundation, she brought back more than just new knowledge and skills. She returned with greater confidence, maturity, and determination to continue working toward her goal of becoming a nurse.

At Skills 4 Life Foundation, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Experiences like these help our students discover their strengths, build confidence, and prepare for meaningful futures.

🏉 Our Students Shine at Chiang Mai International Touch Rugby 2026

Recently, Anusorn and Thiranai, students supported by Skills 4 Life Foundation, proudly represented their team at the Chiang Mai International Touch Rugby Tournament 2026 at Suthep Municipal Stadium. Hosted by Chiangmai Hedgehogs and Lanna Rugby Club , the tournament brought together teams from across Thailand and Asia for a weekend of exciting international competition.

Having first been introduced to rugby through opportunities provided in 2025, both students have continued to develop their skills, confidence, and teamwork through the sport. Despite balancing busy internship schedules, they remained committed to training and competing, demonstrating excellent time management, discipline, and determination.

Their hard work paid off as the team earned the Men’s Open Plate Runner-Up title, with Anusorn contributing two tries during the tournament. More importantly, the experience provided valuable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and leadership both on and off the field.

We extend our sincere thanks to Lanna Rugby Club for their continued mentorship, encouragement, and support. Through partnerships like these, our students gain opportunities to challenge themselves, build confidence, and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

📚 From Mae Chaem to the World of Economics

Tulaya (“View”), who grew up in a Thai-Karen farming family in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai, is now a third-year Economics student at Maejo University. Through her studies and field experiences, she continues to expand both her knowledge and understanding of the world around her.

Recently, View had the opportunity to visit the Maruey Library and INVESTORY Investment Discovery Museum at the Stock Exchange of Thailand in Bangkok. There, she learned about finance, investment, risk management, and even experienced buying stocks for the first time — an exciting step into the world of economics and financial literacy.

At the same time, her university fieldwork brought her back into local communities to study daily life, occupations, and community resources. These experiences reminded her of her own upbringing in Mae Chaem and deepened her understanding of the importance of empathy, community, and human connection.

At Skills 4 Life Foundation, we believe education is not only about academic success, but also about preparing young people with the confidence, life skills, and real-world experiences needed to build a brighter future.

💪 Building Discipline, Leadership, and Future Opportunities

In Thailand, the Territorial Defense (ROTC) programme offers young people the chance to prepare for military service while continuing their education while building discipline, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility along the way.

Sorn, a student at Skills 4 Life Foundation and currently studying Machine Tool Technology at Chiang Mai Technical College, is embracing this path. As a Territorial Defense cadet, he is gaining hands-on training and valuable life experience, including field training that challenges both body and mind.

Beyond the classroom, experiences like these help our students grow in resilience, confidence, and courage, shaping them into responsible young adults ready to contribute positively to society.

🌱 Learning Beyond the Classroom

During the 2026 school break, students from the Skills 4 Life Foundation chose to make the most of their time off from the classroom and gaining real-world experience, building skills, and connecting with people beyond school.

Beam completed his automotive internship at a busy service center in Chiang Mai, gaining hands-on experience in the field he’s studying. Meanwhile, Sai brought smiles to customers at a soft-serve ice cream kiosk, and Namfon was working in a popular breakfast restaurant, learning service skills and even creating beautiful latte art.

Through these opportunities, our students are developing responsibility, discipline, and confidence and turning their free time into meaningful preparation for the future.

At Skills 4 Life Foundation, we believe that learning doesn’t stop when school does. 💙
