ACPAC Member Spotlight: Individual Member Xiang Fan
We are delighted to spotlight ACPAC member Xiang Fan and warmly congratulate her on the success of her recent book and major recognition.
Xiang Fan is the author of Contemporary Art Cinema Culture in China, which was awarded Runner-up in the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies 2026 Best First Monograph Awards.
The book offers a timely exploration of the dynamic networks of art cinema culture in twenty-first-century China, foregrounding the often-overlooked role of intermediaries such as independent programmers, internet critics, and fan translators. Drawing on original ethnographic research, Xiang Fan examines how these cultural actors shape taste, circulation, and cinephile communities while negotiating the tensions between alternative film culture, state structures, and market forces.
At ACPAC, we are proud to celebrate members whose work expands the field of film curation, programming, and screen studies through fresh perspectives and internationally significant research.
Please join us in congratulating Xiang Fan on this outstanding achievement.
