Mr E. gifted a tree today to Bangkok, for his birthday, and when I asked him why, he said : "it is important for Bangkok ecosystem and it's a small action that will yield high benefit in 20 or 30 years"

He came with his wife and friends, and we all helped digging and planting the tree together, to the great amusement of Bangkok commuters taking the bus just right there!

A honorable and commendable action for the greater good of all, I wish we all were like Mr E and celebrated our birthdays for the benefit of the world!

Small action of the day

Trees must deal with extremely harsh conditions on the sidewalks : soil compaction, waterproofed pavement, pipes, electric lines, and... buses driving so close to the curb as they have so little space to use themselves!

This little tree here has been planted slanted towards the road, and gets battered each time a bus drives bad, poor prospects for growth.

As I was walking early to take a bus, I could spare the string in my bad to tether the sapling straight, out of the way from the road. Took a couple of minutes, I'll find another string.

Remember that trees are our best friends against air pollution, and as today Bangkok air is so bad that we keep children indoors and wearing masks, we must cherish our allies with all the gratitude and respect they deserve.
