Charity Inline Skate and Cycle Road Trip

Charity Inline Skate and Cycle Road Trip 2 girls- INLINE SKATING and cycling- 1000km-15 days – Chang Mai to Bangkok- for the kid s of Ban S

The Challenge
The tour will begin in the center of Chiang Mai and end in the center of Bangkok. Anja will be inline skating and Kelli will be bicycling from Chiang Mai until together we reach Bangkok . We aim to get to Bangkok 15 days later without using any other forms of transportation but inline skates and a bicycle. Our goal is to fundraise a minimum of 1000 Euro/$1,500 for the Baan-San-Fan Or

phanage to support them with their great self-sustainable projects. We will provide sponsors and friends with a daily update and pictures of the trip on our internet blog, which will be available two weeks before the start of the tour. Our anticipated departure from Chiang Mai is March 15th, 2012. All kind of support such as accommodation or equipment is also very much appreciated.

the season in Switzerland is coming to an end... only one more weak working at the Gemmi in Leukerbad!
However all in all I had an amazing and funny time and met great people! Skating down the mountains is great fun and adrenalin on all this long narrow windy roads but i missed my cycle buddy a lot here!
However we will do another adventure next year just need to find the right location and time to meet up!
In two weaks I am going to Afrika Cameroon supporting a community project working with disabled women, doing several workshops and sustainable tourism projects over there. It is a great project and I am very excited to go over there! So maybe ne next charity fundraising challenge is going to be for the prople in Cameroon.
Have a look at the website and tell me your thoughts and if you have some fundraising ideas let me know. :-)
Just like the orphanage this community projects tries to help to make the people economical independent and self sutainable. However, its a long and hard way to get there!
Thanks so much for your help see you soon!

Hey there! It has been a while that we posted on this page.
Now the skatecycle trip in Thailand in more than 4 month ago.. Me Anja I am working in Switzerland while Kelli went back to the US doing some diving and seeing her family again. However we have been skating and cycling a lot!
We both miss the great adventures we had and so much that we wanna plan another charity challenge in November this year.
I am just looking at some routes in different countries while one of the options I found is a tour from Port Elisabeth along the coast to Capetown, which looks very great to me.
This time it would be great to get more skaters and cyclist involved and maybe raise and tour as a group.
If anyone is interested and free in November for a great adventure please text us and also if you know a great route I would be glad for some suggestions.
we will be updating this page soon.

SUCCESS!!! We handed over the funds all of you helped us raise during our challenge. We were able to give Sam and G*i from the Baan San Fan Orphanage 63,040 Thai Baht/ 1,565 Euros/ 2,038 US Dollars. They were excited to share their plans to buy more mattresses and bunk beds to start housing more kids. Thanks again everyone for all your support! Please, let us know if you'd like to visit our family in Thailand. The kids would love to have any new playmates on the football field and/or Sam and G*i would love help building a new chicken coupe. Our family is your family! Thanks again. We couldn't have done it without you!

Hey guys! We havent posted the last days as we have a little climbing island break in Krabi :-)
We are still waiting for the last donations to come in and Kelli is writing an article for the south east backpaper magazine. Also check out this article: http://www.ttrweekly.com/site/2012/04/on-ya-skates-for-homeless-kids/
We raised so far over 2000 dollars and we will meet Sam and G*i from the orphanage on the 14th to deliver the money and also to meet the kids. They just text me they have to new orphans to take care now and they are getting more and more requests to take children to give them the opportunity to have a future they deserve! This guys have their heart on the right place and I hope the money we raised will help them to develop their sustainable projects and to help as many children as possible!
We would like to say thank you again for all the support also after the challenge!

Ahhh, and finally the celebration. It was a little surreal being on Khaosan Road with sooo many "Farangs" when we had just spent the last 12 days only having seen 3 westerners. It was a new perspective. BTW- we passed out at 7pm!

We finally made it to Khaosan Road and after having felt like we truely earned a rum and coke. So went straight for the bucket. THEN..... we passed out by 7p...

We contemplated whether hitching a ride into the center of Bangkok was cheating or not, but then we realized just how precious our lives really are. We were willing to skate 1000kms across Thailand, but braving the the streets of Bangkok was just a bit much when we didn't know the best roads to take. So we hitched a ride and saw the sights via pickup truc

A bit of relief we made into Bangkok, but followed up by a little bit of bittersweet agony we still had to continue on another 25kms. So we took a break and ate instead!

We made it across the city line into Bangkok. We FINALLY made it, but we still have 25kms to go into downton. The traffic is heavy, the drivers are crazy and...

day 11 last day Ayutthaya-Bangkok 80km! We made it!!!! Yeah!!!!
Finally we are on Khaosan Road in Bangkok! We experiencing a little culture shock after not meeting any tourists for the last 12 day there are all this party tourist here..
We tried to have a great night out but Kelli and I passed out at 7PM after 2 buckets of Rum and Coke and Cedric and Kelli needed to wheel me home on my blades :-) We were probably over exhausted...
The last day was great! We went for about 60 km on a very busy 4 lane highway and it was quite dangerous but as Kelli and I are adrenalin junkies we just loved it!
We met cyclist Don an English guy who lives in Thailand and works for a travel journal. He is gonna write an article about us! He was also very helpful guiding us into Bangkok and I felt great being surrounded by 3 cyclists now!
Ones we got into the city of Bangkok Cedric had another flat tire and me and Kelli decided to get a hitch with a pick up truck as the traffic in Bangkok was dangerous and we didn't wanna get injured!
Just to mention that: the entire journey we went on skates and bike and we never took any other transportation!
Today we wanna go on a sightseeing in Bangkok and of course on skates and bike :-).
At this point I wanna say thank you to all who supported us on the block, gave us donations and also thanks so much for all the people we met for the great hospitality!
We can just recommend to everyone doing a trip like this! Its not as difficult as you would think you just have to go for it and do it!
Kelli has never done a long distance cycling trip and I have never done more than 60km on skates before. Now we went 81km average a day for 11 days!
By the way thanks so much to Kelli for saving my life so many times! She blocked the traffic, kept the dogs away, massaged my stinky feet, carried all the luggage, took amazing videos and pictures and motivated me when I was about to give up.
You are a star!!!!
We are already planning the next trip maybe in Europe and who wants to join is more than welcome! Let me know!
