Pastor Robaye Tolbaye Justin relies on MAF flights for faster and safer travels to Goz-beida in Eastern Chad to make disciples of Christ.
He also trains church planters in Goz Beida, Aradip, and Koukou Angarana.
His experience with MAF has been very good because MAF flights allow him to reach the most remote places that are hard to access with the Gospel. A journey that takes 3 days by road takes only 3 hours with MAF.
‘‘We are spared from road bandits and robbers of all kinds. MAF flights are fast and secure. They make our work easier and allow us to accomplish our mission more quickly,'' he said.

Our caravan is back in the air! ✈️ After maintenance, it’s now on its way to Chad to continue serving isolated communities.
Earlier today, MAF's Country Director in Uganda Sam Baguma prayed with pilot Phil and Esmara before they set off. 🙏
Praying for safe travels as they journey to Chad.

Where's the farthest you've had to go for routine maintenance?
Following a long flight from N'Djamena, pilot Phil, accompanied by Esmara, Ronnie and Dieudonne, landed our Caravan safely in Kajjansi, Uganda where it will undergo scheduled maintenance.
Later this week, the plane is expected to return to Chad, ready to continue serving isolated communities.
We are so very grateful for the dedication, skill, and teamwork of our members who are willing to spend frequent days away from their families to help keep us flying for life. 🙏

MAF partner and linguist, Mark Ortman, shares how he developed the Teda alphabet in isolated Bardaï in northern Chad, which had previously never been written down.

For three decades, Bible translator Jackie Hainaut relied on Mission Aviation Fellowship to reach and serve remote communities in Chad.
Her first flight with MAF came after a serious accident in 1994 when fuel shortages meant another aircraft couldn’t reach her. MAF stepped in, flying her from Fianga to N’Djamena for urgent medical care.
“Because of MAF,” Jackie said. “I was able to get timely medical help and avoid being paralysed, so was able to return to the field.”
Jackie first arrived in Chad in 1989 with SIL/Wycliffe to help translate the Bible into the Kera language. For 13 years she served as a linguist and exegete, helping complete the Kera New Testament in 2002.
During the rainy season, flooding and dangerous roads made travel nearly impossible. That’s when MAF flights became essential - not just for Jackie, but for many others.
“MAF has certainly advanced the cause of Bible translation – but has also been a tremendous help to the Chadian church,” she said. “It has been a lifesaver for many who have needed to be evacuated to get medical help.
“The MAF pilots have always been professional; being gracious and modelling Christ and His love to the people they serve, which is a tremendous testimony.”
Today, the impact continues. Since the Kera New Testament was dedicated in 2006, thousands have learned to read their language, churches have grown, and many are training as pastors and leaders.
“The Kera people were marginalised for many years and looked down on by other people groups that had a written form of their language and the Scriptures, but they now have a sense of dignity and are proud to be Kera,” Jackie said.
Reflecting on her years of partnership with MAF, Jackie shared this blessing from Hebrews 6:10:
“God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.”
We are honoured to partner with Jackie to serve the people of Chad.

For Staci Davenport, a family medicine doctor and director of Béré Adventist Hospital, MAF flights are the only option to escape a day-long-journey by road. She has served in Chad for 7 years, covering maternal service, procedures and consults and taking call for medicine and paediatrics along with our two Chadian generalists.
Her services are very crucial as Chad has some of the highest maternal and infant death rates in the world.
‘‘Chad has some of the worst stats in the world for maternal and infant mortality,’’ Staci said. ‘‘So, we offer deliveries and caesarean sections for free, and even give the babies born in the hospital free T-shirts to try to encourage more in-hospital births.’’

As we continue celebrating 60 years of MAF in Chad, let’s give thanks for our partners - doctors Mark and Andrea Hotchkin who have been improving healthcare in northern Chad for the past 9 years!
MAF regularly flies surgeon Mark and obstetrician Andrea to isolated Bardaï Village near the Libyan border so that they can work at Hôpital provincial de Bardaï
Without MAF’s 6-hour flight from the capital N’Djamena, the couple would spend up to 5 days driving across the Sahara Desert risking breakdown, robbery, kidnap or dehydration! https://f.mtr.cool/vyazrqxzci

Agence Technique pour l’Action Humanitaire et Sociale (ATAHS) recently completed two round-trip missions with the support of MAF: the first in November and December 2025, and the second in January 2026. The first mission aimed to officially hand over the community radio Souroup FM 98.3 MHz from Zouar to the local association Association pour le Développement de Tibesti (ASDET), while the second aimed to officially sign the terms of reference for the radio with La Haute Autorité des médias et de l'audiovisuel (HAMA).
Their interventions play a vital role in strengthening social cohesion within the Tibesti province by providing opportunities for professional skills development as well as job creation for youth and women.
‘‘We work within the framework of preventing violent extremism and reinforcing social cohesion in this province,’’ said Mahamad Nazir Ouchar, the programme coordinator.
The distance by road between the capital N'Djamena and their intervention areas , Zouar, Wour, and Bardai, is considerable. N'Djamena-Zouar measures 1,560 km (about two and a half days of travel), N'Djamena-Wour is 1,710 km (three days of travel), and N'Djamena-Bardai is 2,000 km (equivalent to four days of travel). MAF flight reached Zouar in under 5 hours.
