Medical Mission Eswatini

Medical Mission Eswatini MME is a not-for-profit Medical Non-government Organization that aims to bring hope and healing in Eswatini and neighboring countries.

MME was developed from a deep committed to the health and well-being of people particularly those in isolated, under-privileged communities. Decades of experience in community-centered health development ensures MME staff have a network of collaborators that strengthen its capacity to deliver international best practice programs. MME seeks sustainable health care improvement via working models inc

luding ethical income generation via charitable partnerships with experienced technical organisations. It is fundamentally guided by principles of integrity and transparency, stemming from Christian and Family Values. MME is driven by the love of others and the belief that all people in ill-health deserve the best medical services. Cataracts currently blind over 60 million people world-wide. A safe, 15-minute procedure restores sight to recipients, improves quality of life and the care and relationships they have with others. They can support and educate children in their care and participate more in communities. Eswatini has over 3000 people who are now cataract blind but can only deliver 1000 operations a year. As other illnesses such as HIV and TB are better managed, there is an increase in the ageing population in Southern Africa and subsequently the number of people needing cataract operations. The poorest have the least access surgery due to lack of knowledge, fear, cost and distance from equipped facilities. Awareness and acceptance of cataract removal has begun to be addressed by an active Cataract Case Finding Service piloted by MME associates, but surgical capacity is not growing with diagnosis demand.

Thanks to Mercy Air and Mabuda Farm, our team traveled easily to Uppington where they have restored sight for people waiting years to see again in an area with little to no eye services for millions of people. Onwards and upwards we push to bring God's love to those who need it most!

Mercy Air landing on Mabuda this past week to pick up a team of Medical Mission Eswatini volunteers. They are heading to Upington, South Africa for their quarterly outreach where they will see over 100 patients, restoring sight to the blind, and caring for those in need.

It’s always exciting having an airplane land on the farm, but even more so when it’s for an extraordinary purpose. ✈️ ✨
