𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐎𝐘 𝐀𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐎 𝐃𝐀𝐘 | 𝟐𝟏 𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐔𝐒𝐓

Today, we commemorate 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐲, a national observance that honors the life and sacrifice of 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨 “𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲” 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐉𝐫., one of the most prominent figures in the country’s struggle for democracy.

Born on 𝟐𝟕 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟑𝟐 in Tarlac, Ninoy Aquino entered public service at a young age and became one of the youngest mayors in the country. Today, 𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐲 serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made during a difficult period in Philippine history. His story continues to remind Filipinos that 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑜𝑚 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑑𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑡ℎ 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 and that meaningful change can begin when people choose to stand for what they believe is right.

The 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 - 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮 respectfully calls for greater consideration of college students' safety during severe weather conditions and for the timely implementation of class suspensions when necessary. Many students travel long distances and face challenges such as flooding, heavy rainfall, impassable roads, and transportation disruptions. Delayed suspension announcements may unintentionally place students at risk as they commute to and from campus.

While academic responsibilities remain important, student safety and well-being should always be given utmost priority. Missed lessons can be recovered, but accidents, injuries, and lives lost cannot.

This situation also highlights the need for stronger flood control measures, improved urban planning, disaster preparedness, and responsible stewardship of public resources. Addressing these concerns is essential to building safer and more resilient communities for everyone.

As future healthcare professionals, nursing students recognize their responsibility to remain informed, engage in meaningful discourse, and advocate for the welfare of the public. We encourage our fellow students to stay aware, exercise their right to participate in civic matters, and support leaders who demonstrate competence, integrity, compassion, and a genuine commitment to public service.

Above all, the 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 - 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮 respectfully reminds all stakeholders that college students are more than attendees in a classroom. We are students, commuters, future healthcare professionals, and members of the community. Our concerns deserve to be heard, our circumstances understood, and our safety protected.
