How does the blood flow from the heart through my body? How do I brush my teeth? And how is my digestive system working? All of these were vividly explained by the primary pupils this morning.

But we could also learn how to make liquid soap or how to build a helper for carrying heavy water jerrycans. Each year, the primary school prepares a science fair where all these small and big questions from our daily life are explained scientifically.

While the pupils watched in fascination, a group of secondary students served as the jury. They congratulated the younger ones on their presentation and encouraged them to stay curious and explore the world.

What do arts and drama, computers, culture, science, dance, entrepreneurship, environment, counselling, journalism, peace, rangers and Red Cross have in common? They are all clubs at Loreto Secondary School, and today we got to see what they usually do.

In a colourful, stunning, and encouraging show, each club presented its topics, skills, and members and invited our new students to join them.

We are very proud to have so much talent and skill here at our school. We look forward to exploring more of them so we can improve ourselves and our school life and serve our society and country.

“Be the best version of yourself” was the theme for the last three days in Loreto Rumbek.

While celebrating the life of Mary Ward, the foundress of the Loreto Sisters, we discovered more about ourselves and our faith; we learned about Christian leadership, which Mary Ward understood as serving others with love and courage; we prayed and listened to the word of God; and we played, danced, and enjoyed delicious cakes and a tasty meal.

“Women in time to come will do much” is one of Mary Ward's famous mottos, and during the last three days we could see what great potential lies in all of us. We say a big thank you to all who made these beautiful days happen. Mary Ward, pray for us and give us your spirit.

When our graduates get married, it's a great tradition for the family to bring a bull to thank the school and the whole Loreto family.

Bulls are shared among extended families as part of the wedding ritual, and we are always happy to be acknowledged too.

Today we gratefully received a bull from Deborah Ajak Mapuor Thuc, her husband Joseph Maker and her extended family. We wish the young couple a blessed life together.

Today, we remember our martyrs and heroes who fought for the freedom of South Sudan. The school community gathered around the memorial Cross to commemorate all who gave their lives, acknowledging their suffering and sacrifices.

The next generation of patriots will fight, not with guns, but with their pens and their hearts for peace, prosperity and unity in South Sudan.

Welcome! Today we were delighted to welcome 24 secondary girls and two babies as new members of the Catholic Church. The baptism was a joyful celebration for the whole school community.

The teachers made sure the sound was good; it was they who made up the choir today.

And at the end, we were able to say ‘welcome’ once again to our 20 new interns, who will start their internships on our school compound tomorrow. Many blessings to you all.

“We, the newly inaugurated prefects of Loreto Secondary School, do solemnly pledge to serve our school with honour and dedication. We promise to lead by positive example, to uphold the rules and values of our institution, and to treat every student with fairness and respect…” pledged our newly appointed prefects today, before receiving the blessing of the whole school community.

Last week, they took over their duties from the former prefects. We say a huge thank you to all the leaving prefects for their engagement and wish the new ones success and determination for their term of service.
