We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Narus Payam WASH Forum for their outstanding initiative in promoting income-generating activities through farming.
This is part of the efforts supported by VNG International to promote resource mobilization by the Local Structures (PWF, WMCs and Women Leaders).

By cultivating vegetables as a sustainable way to support the operationalization of the Payam WASH Forum, the team has not only demonstrated innovation but also true ownership and commitment to improving community health and livelihoods. 🥬🥕🍅

This inspiring effort is a shining example of how local solutions can drive lasting change.

IHDO had successfully concluded a four-day training and follow-up meeting in Kapoeta South County focused on updating women leaders on the 2025 advocacy plan. The training aimed to strengthen women's capacity to actively engage in advocacy around Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) issues in their communities.

Key outcomes of the training included:

Development of a WASH Advocacy Strategy:
Participants collaboratively developed a comprehensive advocacy strategy, clearly identifying the roles women can play in promoting hygiene and sanitation, as well as advocating for equitable access to safe water.

Formulation of Advocacy Goals and Objectives:
Women leaders established specific advocacy goals and objectives that align with community needs and support broader efforts to improve WASH services.

Understanding of Decision Makers and Influencers:
Participants explored the distinction between decision makers and influencers. Through this, they recognized the importance of targeted advocacy to ensure community needs and voices are effectively communicated to those in power.

Identifying Opposition and Obstacles:
Women also discussed potential opposition and challenges that may arise during advocacy efforts, particularly in promoting community-led water management. Strategies to overcome these obstacles were explored to enhance the effectiveness of their initiatives.

The training empowered women leaders with knowledge, tools, and confidence to be strong advocates for WASH improvements in their communities, ensuring their voices and concerns are heard and addressed by relevant stakeholders.

As part of the Sustainable Development through Improved Local Governance (SDLG) project, implemented by the Integrated Health and Development Organization (IHDO) with funding from VNG International, a comprehensive training was conducted for the Himodonge Payam WASH Forum (PWF) in Torit County. The focus of the training was to support the Forum in developing its 2025 Annual Work Plan.

The training emphasized problem analysis and the identification of root causes, forming the basis for strategic planning. Participants engaged in structured discussions that led to the establishment of relevant sub-committees, which are crucial for effective implementation and follow-up of planned activities.

Through participatory sessions, the Forum identified three key priority areas to address in 2025:

Resource Mobilization – Developing strategies to attract and manage resources to sustain WASH interventions.

Strengthening Coordination Mechanisms – Enhancing collaboration among stakeholders at the Payam and County levels to ensure efficient service delivery.

Monitoring of Water Management Committees (WMCs) – Establishing systems for regular oversight and capacity-building of WMCs to ensure accountability and functionality at the grassroots level.

Following the identification of these focus areas, participants collaboratively developed a set of actionable activities tailored to address the challenges and drive forward progress in line with the Forum’s objectives.

This training marks a significant step toward strengthening local governance structures and promoting sustainable WASH services delivery in Himodonge Payam.

On May 9th, 2025, the Integrated Health and Development Organization (IHDO), in collaboration with the local government authorities of Kapoeta North County, conducted a comprehensive training session for the Kapoeta North Payam WASH Forum.

The training, held within the framework of strengthening local capacity and sustainability, focused on the theme of Resource Mobilisation, an essential component in the development and maintenance of effective WASH services.

The objective was to empower forum members with practical skills and strategic insights to improve planning, coordination, and mobilization of both internal and external resources to support WASH initiatives in the County.

Key Topics of Discussion were:
Problem Analysis:

The training commenced with an in-depth analysis of the current challenges facing WASH services in Kapoeta North. Participants engaged in identifying key issues such as limited access to clean water, poor sanitation infrastructure, and inadequate hygiene promotion. Through participatory methods, the forum was able to map out pressing community needs and prioritize areas requiring urgent intervention.

Root Causes:
Building on the problem analysis, the participants examined the underlying causes contributing to the WASH challenges. These included factors such as limited government support, weak community engagement, insufficient technical capacity, and gaps in coordination among stakeholders. Understanding the root causes enabled the forum members to align their resource mobilisation strategies with real and sustainable solutions.

Formation and Strengthening of Sub-Committees:
To ensure effective implementation of strategies discussed, the training emphasized the formation and operationalization of sub-committees within the WASH Forum.
