Subject: An urgent request for humanitarian aid and registration for displaced civilians from Akobo who entered the Akobo Woreda of Ethiopia.
To: Ethiopian and South Sudanese authorities, humanitarian organizations, and international humanitarian partners.
I am writing to humbly ask that civilians who have recently entered Ethiopian territory in search of safety and who have been displaced from Akobo County and the neighboring counties of Uror and Nyirol in Jonglei State be promptly registered and given humanitarian aid.
Due to increased insecurity and aerial bombardment in Akobo, Uror, and Nyirol Counties, a large number of civilians—mostly women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable individuals—have fled across the border into Ethiopia. These displaced people desperately need official registration and humanitarian aid to ensure their safety and access to necessary services.
I kindly request the concerned authorities of both South Sudan and Ethiopia, together with humanitarian partners, to urgently coordinate efforts to register these displaced populations and provide immediate assistance. Among the pressing needs are:
Families experiencing severe hunger can receive emergency food assistance.
Basic household goods like blankets, sleeping mats, and cooking utensils as well as temporary housing
Sanitation services and clean drinking water to stop disease outbreaks
Emergency healthcare, including services for mothers and children
Protection services for women, children, people with disabilities, and the elderly
Nutritional assistance for undernourished children and expectant or nursing mothers
Psychosocial assistance for victims of violence and displacement
Formal registration will facilitate the identification of the affected population, ensure equitable distribution of aid, and allow humanitarian organizations to successfully address the urgent needs of these displaced families.
Therefore, I call on humanitarian organizations and the authorities of both countries to immediately coordinate in order to assess the situation and provide these vulnerable individuals with life-saving assistance.
Your swift action will prevent further suffering and safeguard the safety and dignity of civilians who have been forced to flee their homes.
