Today, we celebrate the energy, resilience, creativity, and leadership of young people across the world.

This year’s theme, “𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘀, 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀,” reminds us that young people may face different realities, but share common hopes for peace, education, opportunity, dignity, and a better future.

In South Sudan, young people continue to rise above conflict, displacement, unemployment, and limited opportunities. They are leading in peacebuilding, education, entrepreneurship, advocacy, sports, culture, and innovation, proving that youth are not only the future, but leaders of change today.

At TOCH South Sudan, we believe investing in young people is essential to building just, prosperous, peaceful, and resilient communities. Through education and life skills, child protection, peacebuilding, livelihoods, and youth engagement, we support young people to develop skills, access opportunities, participate meaningfully, and become agents of positive change.

On this International Youth Day, we call on government, communities, civil society, development partners, the private sector, and young people to listen to youth, invest in their potential, create opportunities, and ensure their voices are part of decisions that affect their lives and communities.

TOCH South Sudan was pleased to host a monitoring mission from Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) from 27-31 July 2026 to review progress of Women and Girls Friendly Spaces (WGFS) activities in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

The mission commenced with meetings at the TOCH Head Office in Juba on 27 July, followed by travel to Wau on 28 July and field visits to the Bussere and Eastern Bank Women and Girls Friendly Spaces from 29-31 July.

During the visit, the NCA team engaged directly with women and girls participating in the programme, observed project activities, and witnessed the positive impact of integrated interventions including psychosocial support, counselling services, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), and livelihood skills development initiatives.

Beneficiaries shared inspiring testimonies demonstrating how the project has improved their wellbeing, strengthened their resilience, and enhanced their economic independence.

Josephine Nicholas Simon spoke about the transformative role of savings groups in supporting her family.

For Sidonia Clement Ubo, the greatest impact has been personal growth and improved relationships.

"𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲, 𝗜 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁. 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗜 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲."

The monitoring mission provided an opportunity for NCA and TOCH to assess project progress against agreed workplans, logframes, and budgets while verifying compliance with financial, procurement, and logistics procedures. The exercise also examined the quality, relevance, effectiveness, and accessibility of gender-based violence (GBV) interventions, reviewed partner capacity gaps identified through the Partnership Assessment Tool (PAT), and enabled direct engagement with rights-holders to better understand inclusivity and the overall impact of the project.

The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of TOCH South Sudan and NCA to ensuring that women and girls have access to safe spaces where they can heal, learn, build sustainable livelihoods, and realize their full potential. Through strong partnership, community engagement, and a survivor-centered approach, the programme continues to contribute to more resilient, inclusive, and peaceful communities.

Martyrs' Day is more than a day of remembrance, it is a solemn call to reflect on the values of our heroes who fought and died for peace, justice, unity, equality, and hope. Their sacrifices remind us that the future of South Sudan depends on our collective commitment to building a nation where every child, woman, girls rights is granted, protected, empowered, every young person has opportunities to thrive, and every community can live in harmony and free from any forms of violence and abuse.

Today, TOCH joins the global community in celebrating 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 under the theme: "𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲."

Every year on 15 July, World Youth Skills Day highlights the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to access employment, create livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Across South Sudan, young people continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience, innovation, and determination despite the many challenges they face. At TOCH, we recognize that empowering youth with practical and marketable skills is key to building a more prosperous, peaceful, and self-reliant future.

Through our youth empowerment initiatives, TOCH has supported hundreds of young people to develop the skills needed to secure employment and create sustainable livelihoods. Our efforts include vocational and technical skills training through the 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗷 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗩𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲, internship opportunities for young graduates to gain practical work experience, and life skills training delivered through 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗪𝗚𝗙𝗦) and 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗖𝗙𝗦) for adolescents and young people.

These interventions have enabled youth to strengthen their employability, build confidence, develop entrepreneurship skills, and access opportunities for income generation. By investing in vocational education, workplace exposure, leadership development, and life skills, TOCH is helping young people transition from vulnerability to productivity and become active contributors to their communities and the nation's development.

We believe that investing in young people's skills today is investing in a future where every young person has the opportunity to achieve decent livelihoods, drive innovation, promote peace, and contribute to sustainable development.

Today, TOCH joins all South Sudanese in celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of South Sudan.

As we mark this historic milestone, we honor the sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering courage of the heroes and heroines whose commitment secured our nation's freedom. Their legacy inspires us to continue building a peaceful, united, and prosperous South Sudan for all.

At TOCH, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting and protecting the rights, dignity, and well-being of every child. We believe that a stronger South Sudan is one where every child is safe, protected from violence and exploitation, has access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities to realize their full potential.

As we celebrate our independence, let us renew our collective responsibility to advance peace, social cohesion, reconciliation, and inclusive development. Together, we can create a nation where children grow up in safe and supportive communities and where no child is left behind.

𝐓𝐎𝐂𝐇 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞
TOCH South Sudan, in partnership with Peace Canal, successfully hosted a five-day joint field monitoring mission for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Peacebuilding Opportunity Fund (POF2) from 22–26 June 2026 in Rumbek, Lakes State.

The mission provided an opportunity for the donor delegation to engage directly with communities and witness the impact of the 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞: 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐋𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞. The delegation visited Women Peace Farms, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), Women and Girls Friendly Spaces (WGFS), Akut de Door community dialogue structures, and Accountability Boards, where they interacted with beneficiaries and local stakeholders who are driving positive change within their communities.

Speaking during the visit, community elder and spear master 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐨𝐭 highlighted the transformative impact of the programme, noting:

He further commended SDC and POF2 for supporting an integrated approach that combines peacebuilding, protection, and livelihoods, emphasizing that the programme has strengthened social cohesion, trust, and cooperation among communities.

The Governor of Lakes State, 𝐌𝐚𝐣. 𝐆𝐞𝐧. 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐤 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐧, praised the initiative and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting community-led peacebuilding and development efforts.

During the mission, representatives of SDC and POF2 expressed appreciation for the progress made and commended TOCH South Sudan, Peace Canal, local authorities, community structures, and beneficiaries for their dedication and commitment to achieving sustainable peace and development outcomes.

The 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, implemented by Peace Canal and TOCH South Sudan in Lakes and Warrap States, addresses the root causes of intercommunal conflict through community-led peacebuilding, governance, protection, and economic cooperation. The programme's achievements reflect the collective efforts of donors, government institutions, traditional leaders, community volunteers, women's groups, youth representatives, and local communities working together to build peaceful and resilient societies.

Under the theme “𝐔𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐈𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞,” TOCH reaffirms its commitment to protection, inclusion, and sustainable solutions for refugees, returnees, and internally displaced people, both in South Sudan and beyond.

TOCH South Sudan has successfully concluded a three-day distribution and field monitoring mission in Turalei, Wunrok payams Twic County and Gogrial, Kuac north and Riau Payams Gogrial West Counties, Warrap State, reaching 320 vulnerable households through the Caritas Norway Food Security and Livelihood Project.

The intervention that started on 10/06/2026 – 12/06/2026 targeted persons with disabilities, returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host community members with a package of integrated livelihood resilience support. In each payam four VSLA group, PSS received start-up capital, seed (vegetables), life skills, NFIs, Farmer Field School seeds and agricultural tools and WASH supplies aimed at strengthening household resilience, food security, and self-reliance.

For many beneficiaries, the support represents renewed hope and an opportunity to rebuild their livelihoods.

Today, we honour the bravery of the children of the 1976 Soweto Uprising and recommit to protecting every child’s rights.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa.

In South Sudan, too many children still lack safe water and sanitation. This must change.

𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰, 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗷 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 – 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗽 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗻
Communities in Tonj East County are witnessing renewed hope with the launch of the 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗰 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝟭𝟬𝟬.𝟰 𝗙𝗠) in Romic on 9th June, 2026, an initiative led by TOCH South Sudan under the Kongkoc Project’s reconciliation pillar.

The new radio repeater station is strategically established to address longstanding intercommunal tensions by strengthening access to timely, accurate, and community-driven information. By providing a platform for dialogue, peace messaging, and civic awareness, the station is expected to play a critical role in fostering social cohesion, promoting the rule of law, and supporting livelihoods across Greater Tonj and neighboring states like Lakes and Unity.

Local leaders have welcomed the initiative as a transformative step toward stability and development. 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗮𝗸, 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗷 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆, emphasized the station’s significance:

“𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀.”

In a context where communities continue to recover from cycles of conflict, the station also addresses practical needs. Community leader 𝗦𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗷𝗮𝗻𝗴 highlighted its relevance for recovery efforts:

“𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗰 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆.”

The station is also strengthening inclusive participation by ensuring that marginalized voices especially women are heard in peacebuilding processes, 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗰𝗮 𝗬𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹, 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱:

“𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗰 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗷, 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀.”

By prioritizing inclusivity, the initiative contributes to building more equitable and resilient communities.

The Kongkoc Radio Repeater forms part of a broader, multi-partner peacebuilding effort under the Kongkoc Project. The initiative is implemented by TOCH South Sudan in collaboration with consortium partners, including UNDP, WFP, UNMISS, ADRA, Stewardwomen, and Peace Canal.

This joint effort reflects a coordinated approach to addressing the root causes of conflict through community engagement, dialogue facilitation, and information sharing.

Sustainability remains central to the intervention. TOCH’s Peacebuilding Manager, John Mayiik, underscored the importance of local ownership:

By strengthening local responsibility and community engagement, the initiative is designed to deliver long-term peace dividends beyond the project lifecycle.

The successful establishment of the Kongkoc Radio Repeater Station has been made possible through the generous support of 𝗥𝗦𝗥𝗧𝗙 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀, whose continued investment is critical in addressing funding gaps and sustaining peacebuilding efforts in fragile contexts.
