PRESS STATEMENT
Date: 25 July 2025
Subject: A Call to Action – Making the National Youth Charter a Reality

CMDEC Position on the Launch of the National Youth Charter

On 22nd July 2025, the National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC), in partnership with UNDP and various youth organizations, achieved a significant milestone in South Sudan’s constitution-making process by launching the National Youth Charter.

This Charter stands as a living advocacy document that highlights critical concerns needing the urgent attention of the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) and all relevant stakeholders. It offers a definitive voice for youth organizations nationwide and represents a vibrant, innovative, and resilient demographic—young people who are not only future leaders but active changemakers today.

Too often, the voices of our youth go unheard, and their potential remains underutilized. The National Youth Charter is a collective response to this gap. It is more than a policy framework; it is a social contract between the state, civil society, and the youth of South Sudan. Developed through broad consultations with youth leaders, educators, and communities, the Charter outlines a bold, inclusive agenda to unlock youth potential across key areas—education, employment, entrepreneurship, health, civic participation, and environmental stewardship.

Our Position and Call to Action:

CMDEC recognizes that when youth thrive, the nation prospers. When they are sidelined, the country stagnates. Investing in young people is not optional—it is a moral, social, and economic necessity.

In light of this, CMDEC calls for the following action:

1. Formal endorsement of the National Youth Charter by the Transitional Government of National Unity as a guiding framework for all youth-related policies and programs across South Sudan.
