On October 11, LEAF Organization successfully held a significant Climate Awareness and Action Workshop at its office in Jebel Lemon, Shirikat, Juba using locally mobilized resources. The event, which lasted from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Juba time), brought together over 20 enthusiastic volunteers, youth, and students to enhance their understanding of climate change and their roles in local climate initiatives.
Under the theme โ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง,โ the workshop is part of LEAF Organizationโs ongoing efforts to tackle climate change at the grassroots level, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), which emphasizes the need for immediate action against climate change and its effects.

Participants engaged in informative sessions and discussions on key topics, including but not limited to the following.
1. Understanding Climate Change: Causes, Effects, and Solutions โ This session provided a scientific and community-focused view on global warming, extreme weather, and strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
2. The Role of Volunteers, Communities, and Organizations like LEAF Organisation in Climate Action โ This discussion explored how local actors and civil society can promote sustainable environmental practices and advocate for policy changes.
3. Climate Education and Communication โ Participants learned how to effectively inform, engage, and motivate others to take action through simple, accessible education and awareness initiatives.

The workshop featured notable experts from East Africa, who participated virtually to share their knowledge:
- Dr. Issa Abdilah, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
- Dr. Caston Kioni, University of Nairobi, Kenya
- Dr. Esther Nawenja, Researcher at RAASE Energy Consult and Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Uganda
Their presentations provided valuable regional insights and practical strategies, encouraging dialogue and inspiring action among attendees. The sessions were moderated in person by LEAF Executive Director, Mr. Manyok Andrew John, who facilitated discussions, managed Q&A sessions, and connected virtual experts with the audience.

In addition to knowledge-sharing, the workshop included various interactive activities:
- Group discussions on local climate issues and opportunities
- Interactive exercises aimed at fostering leadership and collaboration
- A tree planting session to emphasize the importance of environmental restoration
- A certificate award ceremony to acknowledge active participation and learning

By educating and mobilizing young people and volunteers, the workshop contributed directly to achieving SDG 13: Climate Action, while also supporting other interconnected goals such as SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). LEAF Organization is dedicated to expanding its climate education and youth engagement initiatives throughout South Sudan and beyond.
