🌸 The Best Sight I Have Ever Seen
~ Athieng Riakbai
Eight years ago, I witnessed the most breathtaking sight of my life…the birth of my son!
I checked into the labor room on Friday, but by Sunday morning the nightmare of prolonged labor had reached its peak. The fourth nurse on duty sounded the emergency alarm, the room filled with urgency, and I was too weak to answer questions about allergies or sign the consent form. I asked if my husband could sign, but they said no. Soon I was rushed to the operation room, oxygen sustaining me, my lower body numbed, yet my strength fading.
Then came the piercing cry…the thrilling sound of new life. “It is a boy!” Moments later, little D was placed in my feeble arms. His radiant energy, fragile warmth, and innocent beauty were the most powerful sight I had ever seen. In that instant, distress turned into joy, exhaustion into strength, and risk into resilience.
This memory is not mine alone…it is a call for solidarity with mothers everywhere. Life does not come easily. It takes sacrifice, courage, and risk for a mother to bring forth another life. That risk deserves respect, protection, and honor. And beyond mothers, it calls all of us to honor life itself, because to protect life is to protect peace, and to respect motherhood is to nurture mental health and human dignity!
*The best sight is not found in distant horizons, it is in the cry of a newborn, the miracle of survival, and the gift of holding life in your arms.*
