COMMEMORATION OF "THE DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD" IN BOR, JONGLEI STATE -SOUTH SUDAN.

WHAT: The Day of the African Child is commemorated every year on 16 June to honor the children who participated in the Soweto Uprising in South Africa in 1976 and to raise awareness about children's rights across Africa.

WHY: It remembers the courage and sacrifice of school children who protested against unequal education.

It highlights the importance of quality education, protection, health, and well-being for all African children.

It encourages governments, organizations, and communities to address challenges affecting children, such as poverty, child labor, discrimination, and lack of access to education.

Theme

"Every child deserves a safe, inclusive, and quality education."

The Child Rights Club of Bor A Primary School, one of the 23 Schools supported by CSI/SCI participated in the commemoration of the Day of the African Child at Wise-Dove Primary School.

The event was participatory and attended by various partners Community Support Initiative -CSI UNICEF South Sudan, Save the Children South Sudan etc and Government officials. It was chaired by the Honorable Minister for General Education and Instruction.

Of great significance was the child participation as MC of the event who is also a member of the Child rights club of BOR A primary School.

Of another Significance;
The day serves as a reminder that every child has the right to:
Education, Protection from violence and exploitation, Healthcare, Participation in decisions affecting their lives, Equal opportunities regardless of background

The community leader of residents around the CSI office in Bor expresses their happiness after CSI graded a small portion of the road that blocks movement to the main road during the rainy season.

We Commenced distribution of Learning and Teaching Materials to 150 Learners at Mangek Pastoralist Education Program (PEP) Center (Liet Cattle Camp).

Assorted Learning and teaching materials were distributed to 150 learners at the Mangek PEP Center in Liet Cattle Camp, Tonj South County, Warrap State.

The exercise involved the provision of various educational supplies such as bicycles, Tents and teacher kits to facilitators and school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, tarpaulin, sitting mats etc to learners to support effective teaching and learning activities.

The distribution aimed to enhance access to quality learning resources, improve classroom participation, and create a more conducive learning environment for children living in the cattle camps.

By equipping facilitators with teaching aids and learners with essential educational materials, the initiative sought to strengthen learning outcomes, increase learner motivation, and promote continued access to education among vulnerable children in the area.

This intervention is expected to contribute to improved attendance, engagement, and academic performance while supporting the broader goal of ensuring that children in cattle camp communities have access to inclusive and quality education.

Road Show/Announcement for the world Environmental Day celebration in Turalei County Headquarters for Twic County in Warrap State.

We conducted the world Environmental day Celebration today in Tiwc County of Warrap State. The event which is celebrated yearly on the 5th of June was planned for 5th of June but could not take place on the day because of the president visit to the state last week.

The main objective of the event is:

To promote environmental awareness and community participation in environmental protection and climate resilience activities ensuring community resilience during and adaptative to the climate shocks.

Specifically, to

1. Raise awareness on environmental conservation and climate change among learners and communities.

2. Promote tree planting and environmental sanitation activities in schools and communities.

3. Strengthen participation of DRR clubs, teachers, and community structures in local environmental protection initiatives.

4. Encourage sustainable environmental practices among children and community members.

5. Advocate for collective responsibility in protecting natural resources and reducing environmental degradation.

We thank the support of the Twic County government through the Hon. commissioner and warrap state in general for their unwavering stand to support the BRACE Project in the area. The Communities and school adminstrations contributed a lot during the event.

We provided 100 tree seedling , planted around the County Education office, nearby school and other public places around as demonstation. we are planning for a thousand more seedling to be planted in the 13 Schools that CSI supports

We also supported a radio-talk-show by the DRR club of Sunrise Primary school at Mayardit radio station in Turalei.

A road show awareness was organised prior to the event, the show reached thousands of residents with the message of the event.

This activity is supported under the BRACE Project, funded by Green Climate Funds and Global Partnership for Education in Partnership with save The Children International and the government of South Sudan.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐚?

Ebola is a very dangerous and deadly disease caused by a virus.

It attacks the body quickly, leading to severe sickness, organ damage, and heavy bleeding.

However, it does not spread through the air like a common cold.

You can only catch it by directly touching the bodily fluids of someone who is already sick or has died from the virus.

𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰

✔️ Ebola is deadly: It causes severe illness, organ failure, and bleeding.

✔️ It is NOT airborne: Ebola does NOT spread through coughing, sneezing, or breathing.

✔️ Not contagious without symptoms: A person can only spread Ebola after symptoms appear.

✔️ Early care saves lives: Going to a health facility immediately gives you the best chance of survival.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐄𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬

You can get Ebola only through direct contact with:
✔️ Body fluids of a sick person: Blood, vomit, diarrhea, sweat, urine, or saliva.

✔️ Dead bodies: Touching or washing an Ebola victim during burial rituals.

✔️ Contaminated items: Bedding, clothing, or needles used by an infected person.

✔️ Infected animals: Hunting, butchering, or eating bushmeat like fruit bats, monkeys, or apes.

𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 & 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐅𝐨𝐫

✔️ Severe vomiting and diarrhea, often with blood
✔️ Severe stomach pain
✔️ Unexplained bleeding from gums, nose, eyes, or in stool

𝐔𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬

✔️ Wash hands often: Use soap and clean water or alcohol-based hand rub.
✔️ Do not touch: Avoid contact with sick people and their body fluids.
✔️ Report immediately: Call your nearest health facility or district health office.
✔️ Safe burials only: Never touch or wash a body. Call trained medical burial teams.
✔️ Avoid bushmeat: Do not handle or eat wild animals, especially bats and monkeys

✔️ Keep the sick person away from others right away.
✔️ Wear full protective gear: gloves, waterproof gown, mask, and face shield.

𝟐. 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐬
✔️ Ebola causes severe diarrhea and vomiting, leading to dangerous dehydration
✔️ Give oral rehydration solution if the person can drink.
✔️ Give IV fluids and salts if they cannot drink to replace potassium and magnesium.

𝟑. 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
✔️ injections into the muscle: This can cause massive bleeding under the skin

✔️ painkillers like Aspirin or Ibuprofen: These makes bleeding worse.
