Dear Beloved Fangak Community, at home and abroad in Egypt, East Africa, Australia, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe,

Subject: Urgent Appeal: Help Save Old Fangak from Devastating Floods

Greetings in the name of our shared heritage and resilience.

Fangak County has been hit by devastating floods caused by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers. On *28th August 2025, Old Fangak, our major town and business center, home to over 15,000 residents, was submerged under floodwaters. Families are stranded, with no means of evacuation, shelter, or safety.

We write to you today with a heavy heart but a determined spirit. Our town is facing a humanitarian catastrophe. The relentless floods that have become an annual challenge have destroyed homes, livelihoods, and pushed our families to the brink.

In this moment of urgent need, the Fangak Youth Union appeals to:

The Government of South Sudan and the Jonglei State Government
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
The international community of goodwill

to join hands in rescuing and supporting the vulnerable people of Old Fangak. Immediate humanitarian assistance is required, including:

Food and clean water
Medical supplies
Shelter
Evacuation support
Declaration of a state of emergency

The Fangak Youth Union is organizing a fundraising initiative to support our stranded community members and facilitate evacuation to safer areas. We call upon all Fangak sons and daughters, wherever they are, to stand with us in this defining moment*.

Fangak Youth Union in Juba, South Sudan conducted an interview with Naam Studio's media team today in regards to the flood that has displaced thousands back home.

This interview aims at the support the community of Nuer, South Sudan National government can offer to the flood affected victims of Fangak. The leadership heads by Mawich Duoth Gatluak came up with this initiative of conducting fundraising in Juba on 12th September 2025 at Nyakuron Cultural Centre and use the funds collected to support the victims on the ground.
