Youth organization for Peace support leadership had a productive meeting with Hon. Albino Akol Atak, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

The Executive Director, Deng Makuach Kiir, and Deputy Executive Director, Achol Alak, briefed the Minister on the upcoming fundraising initiative for IDPs in Jonglei State, affected by the crisis. The event is scheduled for 12th March 2026, in pyramid.

Hon. Minister appreciated the organization efforts, assuring his presence, and emphasized the importance of youth taking national responsibility, not relying solely on international aid. He encouraged the team to continue this vital work.

However the organization call on the citizens to join this initiative, let's come together to support our brothers and sisters in Jonglei.

Youth Organization for Peace Support Distributes Food Aid at Abyei Transit Camp, Calls for Urgent Humanitarian Support

Abyei, April 24, 2024 — The Youth Organization for Peace Support (YOPS) conducted a food distribution at the Abyei Transit Camp, where hundreds of refugees and returnees fleeing the conflict in Sudan are currently residing under increasingly harsh conditions.

The initiative was carried out in partnership with the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. The Commissioner for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, the Director for Training at the Ministry, Hon. Lawrence Akola, and YOPS Executive Director Mr. Deng Makuac led the visit to the camp, accompanied by the full YOPS team.

The Transit Camp, initially designed as a temporary stopover for refugees and returnees before their relocation to various parts of South Sudan, has now become a long-term settlement due to the lack of transportation and logistical support. As a result, conditions in the camp have significantly deteriorated.

Camp residents are grappling with food and water shortages, lack of proper shelter, inadequate sanitation, and little to no access to healthcare. With the ongoing rainy season and exposure to harsh weather, the risks of disease outbreaks, such as cholera, are rising.

Addressing the camp’s residents, Mr. Makuac expressed YOPS’s commitment to advocating for more support. "We recognize the gravity of the situation facing returnees and refugees here. YOPS is dedicated to lobbying for the resources needed to ease their suffering and to support their relocation," he stated.

Many returnees and refugees echoed similar pleas, listing food, clean water, permanent shelter, and most urgently, transport to designated resettlement areas as their most critical needs.

YOPS is now urging government institutions, humanitarian actors, and well-wishers to step in with urgent assistance. "The plight of these people cannot be ignored. We call on all stakeholders to act swiftly and stand in solidarity with the displaced communities in Abyei," Mr. Makuac emphasized.

Youth Organization for Peace Support Visits AMISEF Hospital in Amanth Abek, Abyei Administrative Area
April 21, 2025

Following a successful assessment visit to refugee and returnee settlement camps in Amiet, and the distribution of food and non-food items to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Agok—affected by the Abienhom conflict—the Youth Organization for Peace Support (YOPS) extended their humanitarian outreach to AMISEF Hospital in Amanth Abek.

The delegation was led by Hon. Reech Ador, Commissioner for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Hon. Lawrence Akoola, Director for Training and Planning, and Mr. Deng Makuach Kiir, Executive Director of YOPS.

During their visit, the team distributed essential food items to patients and engaged with hospital leadership on the pressing needs facing the facility. Despite having a well-constructed physical structure, the hospital is currently grappling with severe shortages in surgical and operational equipment, medications, as well as critical staff such as nurses and doctors.

Mr. Mark Mach, Managing Director of AMISEF Hospital, welcomed the team and expressed sincere appreciation for their efforts. He emphasized the urgent need for medical supplies and infrastructure improvements to enable the hospital to better serve the local community.

In response, Mr. Deng Makuach Kiir reassured the hospital leadership that YOPS is committed to mobilizing resources and advocating for support to strengthen healthcare services in the region.

The visit underscores YOPS’ continued commitment to peacebuilding and humanitarian support across the Abyei Administrative Area.

YOPS Conducts Strategic Assessment Visit to Amiet Settlement Camps and Abyei Jongyom Transit Camp

The Youth Organization for Peace and Stability (YOPS), under the leadership of Executive Director Mr. Deng Makuac, conducted a strategic assessment visit today to the Amiet Settlement Camps and the Abyei Jongyom Transit Camp. Carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, the visit aimed to assess the humanitarian conditions of returnees and refugees displaced by the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Due to its geographical location along the Sudan–South Sudan border, Amiet has become a critical entry point and temporary home for thousands of Sudanese refugees and South Sudanese returnees. The YOPS team identified urgent humanitarian concerns, including a dire shortage of food and non-food items (NFIs). Many individuals, including vulnerable women and children, are living under trees or in damaged vehicles with no access to proper shelter.

With the rainy season approaching, the lack of shelter in Amiet Settlement Camps poses increasing risks to health and safety, particularly for children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.

The YOPS team then proceeded to the Abyei Jongyom Transit Camp, which was originally established to temporarily accommodate refugees and returnees for a period of one to two months. However, due to limited transport and relocation mechanisms, many individuals have now been stranded in the camp for over seven months.

Conditions in the Abyei Jongyom Transit Camp are similarly severe. Residents face widespread hunger, inadequate medical supplies, and the absence of proper sanitation and waste management systems. Women and children are disproportionately affected by these challenges.

YOPS’s strategic assessment visit aims to document these pressing needs and advocate for urgent humanitarian assistance. The organization is calling on both national authorities and international partners to respond swiftly, ensuring that displaced populations receive critical support ahead of the worsening seasonal conditions.

Youth Organisation for Peace Support Arrives in Abyei for Humanitarian and Peace Mission

Abyei Administrative Area, April 16, 2025 — The Youth Organisation for Peace (YOPs) has arrived in the Abyei Administrative Area early Wednesday morning to commence a humanitarian mission aimed at supporting internally displaced persons and fostering local peace initiatives.

The delegation received a warm welcome from the Abyei Administrative Government, led by Deputy Chief Administrator Hon. Arop Deng Kuol. Shortly after arrival, the YOPs team held a briefing session with local authorities to discuss the objectives of their visit and gain insights into the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

Accompanied by DG. Lawrence Akolla the Director for Planning in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, the delegation emphasized their commitment to distributing essential food and non-food items to those affected by recent violence in Abiemnhom. According to Reech Ador, Commissioner of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), more than 1,700 individuals have been displaced and are currently living in camps between Agok and Rumamer, where access to food and basic primary healthcare remains scarce.

The Abyei region, long affected by inter-communal tensions with neighboring areas, continues to grapple with the impact of conflict. However, following a recent peace agreement between the youth of Abyei and the neighboring Twic Mayardit community, there is renewed hope for stability. Peace Ambassador Sarah Atoj affirmed the YOPs’ dedication to monitoring and actively supporting the peace process.

The Executive Director of the YOPs Mr.Deng Makuch Kiir announced plans to provide relief to approximately 400 households directly impacted by the Abiemnhom incident. He also conveyed the organization's long-term interest in collaborating with local authorities and peacebuilding partners to ensure sustained support for the region.

In closing remarks, Deputy Chief Administrator Hon. Arop Deng Kuol expressed gratitude for the YOPs’ passionate commitment and their contribution to peace and humanitarian efforts in South Sudan. The delegation is expected to remain in Abyei for several days to engage further with local stakeholders and lay the groundwork for future peace and development projects.

Yesterday, 13. 02. 2025, The Youth Organisation For Peace Support received a surprising donation of Car KAI from one of the proud South Sudanese proud young Man by name Deng Kuol Mabior from Jonglei State.

This came as part of appreciation for our dedication to Charity Work after Mr. Deng saw our commitement to changing lives and empowering young across the country.

Deng made this pledged as the part of his support to easy our mobility as we continue to expand our charity work to other parts of the country we have not reach yet.

The Donation was received by the CEO Mr. Deng Makuac Kiir and among other staffs in the company.

As none profitable Organisation we thanks Mr. Deng Kuol Mabior for his support and we also extend our sincere thanks to everyone who supported us. We also look for to receive more support as we prepare to reach out to most needy
