In Maban, South Sudan, Viola Kiden is part of UNHCR’s Supply Unit. Her work supports procurement, fuel management, warehouse operations, and service requests that help colleagues deliver protection and essential assistance to refugees and host communities.
From fuel that keeps water pumps running, to vehicles that help teams reach schools and registration sites, Supply plays a vital role in every humanitarian response.
Viola’s journey into Supply was not always easy. When she moved from Administration in 2025, she was unsure of what the new role would demand. But with support from colleagues, determination, and a willingness to learn, she found confidence and purpose.
Today, she says, “Supply is home.”
Her story reminds us that humanitarian work is a shared effort. Every request processed, every delivery coordinated, and every problem solved can help ensure that people forced to flee receive the support they need with dignity.
This World Humanitarian Day, we celebrate Viola and humanitarian workers across South Sudan who continue showing up, working together, and making a difference for displaced people and the communities hosting them.
“A little thing can change lives,” Viola says. “A small thing that you may not see as valuable for you or other people, it is valuable for people who are in need.”
