β€œWe had 20 volunteers. 200 people were watching.”

First cleanup.

20 people working. Others standing nearby, watching.

Some asked questions. Some laughed. Some just observed.

We did not try to convince anyone that day. We focused on the work.

By the next cleanup, a few of those same observers joined in.

People do not always respond to words.
They respond to what they see repeated.

β€œNo truck came. The waste still had to move.”

We planned everything.

Volunteers showed up. Cleanup was done.

Then the truck did not come.

For a moment, everything stopped. Bags everywhere. No next step.

We made calls. Borrowed transport. Moved the waste in smaller loads.

It took longer. It was not efficient. But it got done.

Field work is not about perfect plans.
It is about finishing anyway.

β€œWe cleaned it. Two weeks later, it looked the same.”

We cleared this entire stretch of the river.

Bags filled. Area looked clean. People passing by noticed.

Two weeks later, we came back.
Same plastic. Same spots.

That was the moment it became clear this is not a cleanup problem.
It is a behavior and system problem.

So we adjusted. More awareness. More follow-up. Less focus on one-day impact.

Cleaning is visible. Change is slower.
Which one do you think matters more?
