UNDP South Sudan and South Sudan's Ministry of Finance & Planning convened State Coordination Offices and key partners to assess public finance management (PFM) and institutional capacity gaps at the subnational level. The meeting realigned technical support and coordination mechanisms in the face of reduced resources, identified priority interventions and collaborative modalities, and agreed a pragmatic, jointly owned roadmap to sustain essential PFM functions that underpin service delivery and the implementation of the National Development Strategy and State Development Plans.

This convening will help ensure limited resources are targeted for maximum impact, reinforce state level ownership of reforms, and preserve momentum toward stronger institutions for stability and development.

In partnership with the South Sudan National Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security - MAFS, we joined the opening of the South Sudan Agriculture Conference 2026, which brought together government, private sector, United Nations, development partners, investors, youth, and women to drive a transformative path for South Sudan’s agricultural development.

Focus areas were:

➡️ Promote innovative technologies to increase smallholder productivity
➡️ Advance youth participation in agricultural transformation
➡️ Leverage diversified financing for sustainable agriculture
➡️ Expand agribusiness trade and investment

A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Health - Republic of South Sudan, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, United Nations Development Programme - UNDP and UNICEF South Sudan visited Riverside Warehouse, Gumbo to inspect the ongoing expansion project funded by GAVI.

This project will double the warehouse’s storage capacity from 2,000 to 4,500 pallets, creating a more efficient & integrated health supply chain and ensure that essential medicines and vaccines reach even the most remote communities The Global Fund

Our Resident Representative, Mohamed Abchir, handed over ICT and communication equipment to the leadership of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management - MHDM and the National Relief and Rehabilitation Commission - RRC. This support strengthens the government's capacity to:

➡️ Build robust flood & risk monitoring through early warning systems
➡️ Strengthen data-driven decision-making & improve coordination
➡️ Enhance capacity to identify and plan resettlement in low-risk areas
➡️ Improve information dissemination to communities at risk of disasters

In partnership with the Government of South Sudan, UNDP is advancing durable solutions through key initiatives, including flood response and recovery, the establishment and operationalization of the National Coordination and Operations Center (NCOC), and an Information Portal for displacement data, to create conditions for the return, reintegration, and recovery of internally displaced persons & returnees.

In partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and with support from the African Development Bank Group through the Youth Enterprise Development and Capacity Building (YEDCB) Project, this initiative is strengthening institutional and human capacity across key ministries. UNDP, in partnership with the South Sudan National Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security - MAFS, held the 3rd National Technical Committee meeting for the Rural Enterprises for Agricultural Development ( ) project. Key highlights of the meeting included the approval of the 2026/2027 Annual workplan and budget, as well as discussions on the categorization of cooperatives to support effective implementation.

With funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the READ project aims to provide access to finance and deliver inclusive rural financial services to rural producer groups and agricultural cooperatives, enabling them to boost food security in !

We successfully concluded the Project Review Missions for the Youth Enterprise Development and Capacity Building (YEDCB) and Job Creation through Youth and Women-led Micro and Small Enterprises (JMSE) projects. The mission provided a critical opportunity to assess implementation progress, engage in bilateral discussions, address key challenges and risks, and identify mitigation measures to support successful implementation.

Funded by the African Development Bank Group, these projects are expanding access to finance and strengthening the capacity of Micro and Small Enterprises to foster private sector growth in South Sudan. So far, the YEDCB project has provided interest-free loans to 789 MSEs& 4295 youth &women have been trained in business development & entrepreneurship!

In 2024, the company received a 6 million South Sudanese Pounds interest-free loan from the African Development Bank Group and UNDP South Sudan. With this support, they invested in raw materials and packaging, significantly increasing production capacity and strengthening their operations.

African Cornerstone Limited is creating meaningful opportunities, currently providing employment to over 16 youth and women, and supporting livelihoods in .
