INVITATION TO THE GREATER UPPER NILE YOUTH PEACE CAMPAIGN THROUGH SPORT AND DIALOGUE

Theme: “Prioritizing Peace and Talent”
Date: Monday, 31st August 2026

Venue: Youth Empowerment Hub - Y.E.H

Dear Sports Secretaries and Football Presidents,
Kuluna Active Talent is pleased to warmly invite Sports Secretaries and Football Presidents from across the Greater Upper Nile Region to attend the Greater Upper Nile Youth Peace Campaign through Sport and Dialogue, scheduled for Monday, 31st August 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Youth Empowerment Hub.

This important gathering is organized under the theme “Prioritizing Peace and Talent”, recognizing the powerful role that sport can play in bringing young people and communities together. Football and other sporting activities provide a common platform where young people can build friendships, develop discipline, discover their talents, and learn the values of teamwork, respect, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.

The campaign will provide an opportunity for sports leaders, football administrators, coaches, youth representatives, and other stakeholders to come together for meaningful dialogue on how sport can contribute to peacebuilding and strengthen unity among the communities of Greater Upper Nile.

Your participation is particularly important because sports leaders have a unique influence on young people. Through collective commitment and cooperation, we can encourage our athletes and communities to reject violence, promote mutual respect, support peaceful conflict resolution, and create safe opportunities for young people to develop their talents.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to discuss practical ways of strengthening cooperation among football associations, sports leadership, youth organizations, schools, coaches, and communities throughout Greater Upper Nile. We believe that a united sporting community can become a strong voice for peace and a positive force for the future of our young people. We therefore respectfully request your presence and active participation in this important initiative. Your experience, leadership, ideas, and commitment will greatly contribute to making the campaign meaningful and sustainable.

Let us come together through sport and dialogue to build bridges, promote peace, nurture talent, and inspire the next generation of leaders.

Years ago, I once shared a vehicle with some Murle guys. It was my first time meeting Murle people in real life.

My head was already filled with all the stories I had heard about what they had been doing, so meeting one of them in real life was not something I was looking forward to. 😂

These two guys were speaking a language I had never heard before. I considered it normal because I don't know most languages anyway, so I didn't think much about it.

We reached Kaya, and my short brother decided to take advantage of his height. 😂 He crossed the border as Mony Kakwa Uganda, while I remained with Vanessa, Nyane Mayen, Kurthi, Chol Lakhan and the two Murle guys.

Then, for some reason, our vehicle was detained at the border and we were told we had to sleep there.

Now big brother and my cousin had gone with the money, and the driver said he had no money left.

So I looked at the children and said, “We will sleep in the car.” 😂

These two guys knew a little Thok Jieng. They left, and when they came back, they had paid for three rooms, one room for me and my sisters, one for my brother and the driver and one room for themselves.They had also tried to look for food but couldn't find any, so they bought juice and water.

They spoke to the driver and told us to follow them.

We followed.

And that is where I almost succumbed to blood pressure. 😭😂

These guys introduced themselves.

“We are Murle.”

For a second, everything in my body stopped working.

I wanted to deny being from Bor. 😂

But they continued and told me they already knew we were from Bor because of our accent.

I died again.

Then they explained that they were educated, and that the stories we heard back home did not involve them. They told us they were simply students and had no problem with us.

I asked them to help me with their phone so I could call my mother.

I told her what was happening.

My mother started crying.

She said she was going to lose three of us at once, plus her nephew and auntie.

I told her to keep praying for us because there was no other option.

Long story short, we reached our destination safely the next day.

And somehow, those two guys became my friends.

I don't know where they are today.

But I will never forget that journey.

The two were indeed good Murlee.

STATEMENT CONDEMNING VIOLENCE DURING A FOOTBALL MATCH

Kuluna Active Talent strongly condemns the fighting and violence that broke out between supporters and participants from Twic Mayardit County and Cueibet County during a football match.

Football is a powerful tool for peace, unity, friendship, reconciliation, and community development. It should bring communities together, not become a platform for hatred, violence, revenge, or division.

The incidents witnessed during the match do not portray the spirit of peace and unity that football is meant to promote. Instead, such acts are barbaric, unacceptable, and a serious setback to efforts aimed at using sports to build peaceful and united communities.

We call upon the football authorities, players, coaches, supporters, community leaders, and youth from both Twic Mayardit and Cueibet to reject violence and embrace dialogue, tolerance, respect, and sportsmanship.

We further appeal to all football stakeholders to ensure that future matches are conducted in a safe and peaceful environment where players and supporters can compete and celebrate without fear of violence.

Football must unite us, not divide us.
Sports must build peace, not destroy it.
Let us choose dialogue over violence and unity over division.

Kuluna Active Talent remains committed to using football and other sporting activities as a platform for peacebuilding, youth empowerment, reconciliation, and unity among communities.
