Nilepet Community Development Department Donates Hospital Beds, Mattresses, Medical Supplies, and Food Items to Juba Teaching Hospital

Juba, South Sudan | Friday, 3 July 2026

"Action without vision is merely passing time," Nelson Mandela once said. Living up to this principle, the Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet), through its Department of Community Development, donated hospital beds, mattresses, essential medical supplies, and food items to the maternity ward of Juba Teaching Hospital on Friday, 3 July 2026, ahead of South Sudan's 15th Independence Day celebrations.

The donated items were officially handed over by a Nilepet delegation led by the Director for Community Development, Julia Amon Wantok. During the handover ceremony, Dr. Wantok expressed her appreciation to Nilepet's top management for supporting the initiative, describing it as a reflection of the corporation's unwavering commitment to improving healthcare and the well-being of communities across South Sudan.

She explained that the donation forms part of Nilepet's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which seeks to support public institutions and contribute to better healthcare services for vulnerable members of society. She added that the food items donated to the maternity ward were intended to support mothers and newborn babies receiving care at the hospital.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, the Director General of Juba Teaching Hospital, Dr. Anthony Lupai, thanked the leadership of Nilepet for the generous contribution. He said the donated hospital beds, mattresses, medical supplies, and food items would significantly improve patient care, strengthen service delivery at South Sudan's main referral hospital, and provide much-needed support to mothers admitted to the maternity ward.

Patients and their caregivers welcomed the donation with gratitude, describing it as a timely gesture of compassion. They appealed to the government, development partners, private institutions, and other well-wishers to continue supporting the hospital, particularly in improving access to clean water, sanitation, medical equipment, and a clean and healthy environment.

The donation is another demonstration of Nilepet's continued commitment to giving back to the community and supporting South Sudan's healthcare sector. Coming just days before the country's 15th Independence Day celebrations, the initiative highlights the corporation's dedication to improving public health services and standing in solidarity with patients, mothers, and healthcare workers through meaningful community outreach initiatives.

Tong Atak Shares HIV Scare Experience and Importance of PEP Treatment

A Juba resident Tong Atak Makerchol has shared his personal experience after a risky encounter left him fearing possible exposure to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

After seeking immediate medical attention and completing Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) treatment within the recommended 72-hour window, he underwent several rounds of testing over a 15-week period. The final results came back negative, bringing relief and reinforcing the importance of timely medical intervention and safe sexual practices.

He is now using his experience to encourage others to prioritize their health, know their partners’ status, and seek medical advice immediately after any potential exposure.

“Narrow Escape

On March this year upon returning from Pakistan, I felt into an ambush of a certain slay Queen here in juba, we been chatting on TikTok and exchange our contacts. We agreed to go on a date and so fast so sudden we did one special operations one night, on that night as I was dropping here off, she started calling Adut, Abuk , Aluel etc broadcasting the news that I was with her. I immediately became suspicious and started questioning her actions, why would she keeps telling her friends about our little affair.
After dropping her off, one of her close friends send me a message I quote " I hope you used condom , that friend of mine is said to be sick". I could sleep the whole night, I was so bitter with myself. The following morning I went to Gudele hospital and explain to Dr. Tabitha about what I did last night, she immediately prescribe for me some PEP drugs known as post exposure pills which is taken immediately before the end of 72 hours, I started taking the medicine, the doctor also asked me to come after 6 weeks to conduct test on all STDS including HIV.
I did the first tests on 29th April 2026, tests on Hepatitis, syphilis, Gonorrhea, Herpes and HIV were conducted and they were all negative. They Dr also told me that another conclusive test on HIV will be conducted after another 6 weeks due to its longspan of 12 weeks window period.
Today I did the test 15 weeks since that awful night and I want to thank God that it was negative.

Let me take this time to warn the so call sharpshooters in Juba, people are sick and they are willing to infect as many people as they can, they don't care. People have moved to apartment so that they be taken their ARVs secretly, protect yourself, stop saying that condoms is not sweet you like it raw, you will cry, take PEP medicine and get to know your partner's status before special operations. I hope this information will teach you something about the dangers out there.”
