Apple launches iPhone 18 Pro with upgraded camera

Apple launched its latest Pro phones, the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, today at its fall “Surprise and Shine” iPhone event. While the design of the phones remains the same as the earlier model, the upgraded cameras are the highlight of the new devices.

The new Pro series camera features a 48-megapixel camera with variable aperture, made with six thin blades. This system will likely improve low-light photography quality and speed. There are also new pro controls in the camera software, including white balance, shutter speed, aperture and histogram. There are also new photographic styles with texture and grain controls.

The iPhone 18 Pro costs $1,199, and the 18 Pro Max costs $1,299, which is $100 more than last year’s devices. People can pre-order the devices on Saturday, and the devices will be available on September 18.

BREAKING NEWS: Maj. Gen. Atem Salva Kiir takes over as Tiger Division commander

Maj. Gen. Atem Salva Kiir is set to take over as a division commander following confusion and rumours surrounding his appointment on Tuesday.

Sources at Bilpam told HIJ that Atem, who was promoted last week from Brig. Gen. to Maj. Gen. after serving as commander of the NSS Special Force, will take over from Maj. Gen. Deng Madhang.

His appointment sparked uncertainty on social media on Tuesday, with conflicting reports circulating over whether he had officially been assigned to the command.

However, a source at Bilpam told HIJ that Atem has just concluded a briefing with CDF Gen. Santino Deng Wol and is expected to proceed to the Tiger Division headquarters in Giada to formally take over command.

Aloro Machol Dismisses Reports of Atem Salva’s Appointment as Tiger Division Commander

Lt. Col. Aloro Machol Lual has dismissed as “false and misleading” reports circulating on social media claiming that Major Gen. Atem Salva Kiir Mayardit has been appointed commander of the Tiger Division/Republican Guard.

In a public clarification, Lual stated that Maj. Gen. Atem Salva remains the commander of the Special Forces and has not been appointed to lead the Tiger Division.

He condemned the spread of what he described as misinformation, saying such reports could create confusion, undermine public confidence, and damage the image of South Sudan’s leadership.

Lual urged the public and media outlets to rely on credible and verified sources when reporting military appointments and government decisions.

He called for the rejection of misinformation in order to promote peace, stability, and respect for the country’s institutions and leadership.

Singer Deng Mtoto Releases Song Dedicated to Benjamin Bol Mel and Aweil Generals

South Sudanese singer Deng Mtoto has released a new song titled “Mading Aweil Aweel Rot,” dedicated to Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, former Vice President, and several generals from Aweil.

In the song, Deng Mtoto mentions several generals from Aweil, including Gen. Malong Awan, Gen. Santino Deng Wol, Gen. Abuk Abuk, Gen. Jiel Mangok, Gen. Akuei Abusala, Gen. Malong Agat, Gen. Agon Ungom Chut, and Gen. Dau Aturjong.
