Today, as the world commemorates International Womenโ€™s Day, the South Sudan National Youth Union proudly joins the global community in honoring the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women everywhereโ€”especially the courageous women of South Sudan.

South Sudanese women have played a central role in the struggle for freedom and nation building. On this important day, the National Youth Union recognizes that empowering women and girls is not only a matter of justice and equality but also a foundation for sustainable development, peace, and national unity.

Despite the little progress in Womenโ€™s empowerment in our nation, We acknowledge that many South Sudanese women still face significant challenges, including limited access to education, economic opportunities, leadership positions, and protection from gender-based violence.

As the SSNYU, We reaffirm our commitment to:

1. Promoting equal opportunities for women and girls in education, leadership and employment.
2. Supporting policies and programs that protect the rights and dignity of women.
3. Encouraging young people to challenge harmful cultural practices and advocate for gender equality.
4. Working alongside government institutions, civil society, and international partners to advance womenโ€™s empowerment across South Sudan.

The South Sudan National Youth Union calls upon young men and boys to stand as allies in the fight for gender equality because building a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan requires the full participation and leadership of women at every level of society.

As we celebrate this yearโ€™s International Womenโ€™s Day, let us renew our collective commitment to creating a society where every woman and girl can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunity.

To our Mothers and Sisters, Happy International Womenโ€™s Day.

Statement of South Sudan National Youth Union on the Signing of the National Youth Development Policy and National Sports Policy

Juba, 5th/03/2026 โ€” The South Sudan National Youth Union is pleased to announce that the National Youth Development Policy and Sports Policy have today been signed. The Union warmly welcomes the official signing of these policy frameworks. This signing marks a significant step forward in recognizing the vital role that young people play in national development and in creating a clear framework to guide youth empowerment and sports advancement across the country.

These policies demonstrate the governmentโ€™s commitment to addressing the needs, aspirations, and potential of the youth. By providing strategic direction for youth development, skills building, employment opportunities, leadership, and participation in national decision-making, the National Youth Development Policy lays a strong foundation for empowering young people to contribute meaningfully to the nationโ€™s progress.

Equally important is the National Sports Policy, which acknowledges the transformative power of sports in promoting unity, discipline, health, and talent development among young people. The policy will help strengthen sports institutions, improve infrastructure, nurture talent, and create opportunities for youth to engage in competitive and recreational sports at local, national, and international levels.

The South Sudan National Youth Union commends the government, stakeholders, and development partners who worked tirelessly to make these policies a reality. We particularly appreciate the Ministry of Youth and Sports, TNLA, NPA and Markaz Al Salam for their steadfast efforts that allowed youth voices to be heard and incorporated into the final frameworks.

As the representative body of young people, the National Youth Union reaffirms its commitment to working closely with the government, civil society, and partners to ensure the effective implementation of these policies. We call upon all stakeholders to support the operationalization of these frameworks through adequate funding, transparent coordination, and sustained engagement with youth at all levels.

We encourage young people across the country to embrace the opportunities created by these policies and actively participate in programs that promote leadership, innovation, sportsmanship and national unity.
