Today we commemorated the international epilepsy day at Juba teaching hospital emergency department hall. The event was graced by the deputy director of mental health as the guest of honor.

The executive director of IFEA -South Sudan highlighted the unique challenges faced by persons living with epilepsy in South Sudan including lack of access to affordable anti seizures medicines which are further compounded by poverty and climate change crisis.

He further called on the partners to make their pledge and enhance the quality of life for persons with epilepsy. For Initiative for epilepsy awareness has made their pledge to continue improving epilepsy knowledge and understanding about epilepsy as well as training 100 teachers and students on seizures first aid by December 2026.

PWE on the other hand voiced their lack of access to affordable epilepsy and limited epilepsy awareness in communities which results into stigma and discrimination.

They are calling on the government and the NGOs to support children with epilepsy in school by giving them bursaries to study so that they will be able to support themselves and their families in future.
