Dismissed does not mean defeated.

When Mzee Justin came to Initiative for Legal Aid (ILA), he was carrying 20 years of pain.

He fought for South Sudan’s independence. But when the court ruled against him in the land case for his family’s only plot, he fell into depression. He didn’t know his rights. He didn’t know where to start.

“I thought it was over,” he told us.

It wasn’t.

Our team at ILA provided free ( pro-Bono) legal counsel and filed a detailed memorandum of appeal on his behalf.
Hosted by our Executive Director and Program Manager, Mzee Justin left our Juba office with something he hadn’t felt in months: relief.

This is why we exist:

• You have a right to appeal after a case is dismissed.
• Justice includes elders who sacrificed for this nation
• Legal help should not depend on wealth.

For a Lebarator like Justin, the fight for justice continues. And he won’t fight it alone.

If your case was dismissed and you feel hopeless, talk to us first. Depression is heavy. But you still have options.

• Are you a lawyer or law student? Join our network of volunteers.
