Women and Children Health Organization (WCHO) is pleased to announce the successful launch of the Resilient Food Security and Livelihoods Initiative on 25 June 2026 in Kajo Keji County, Central Equatoria State.
The launch ceremony brought together key stakeholders including government line ministries, community leaders, development partners and the Commissioner of Kajo Keji County, Hon. Jackson Wani Mule who officially inaugurated the project. The Commissioner reaffirmed the County's commitment to providing a secure and enabling environment for successful project implementation and expressed his appreciation to Irish Aid, the Government of Ireland, GOAL and WCHO for investing in the livelihoods of the people of Kajo Keji. The project will be Implemented by WCHO in partnership with GOAL and funded by Irish Aid, the project will benefit host communities and returnees across Kangapo I, Kangapo II and Lire Payams.
The initiative aims to strengthen food security, improve nutrition, build climate resilience and enhance household incomes through climate-smart agriculture, farmer group development, agricultural extension services, school environmental clubs, solar-powered irrigation systems, kitchen gardens, poultry and piggery production, nutrition promotion, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), financial literacy and market linkages.
By empowering communities with sustainable agricultural practices, improved nutrition, environmental conservation and inclusive livelihood opportunities, the project will contribute to building resilient communities capable of withstanding climate and economic shocks while improving the well-being of women, children, youth, returnees, and other vulnerable households.
Together with our partners and the people of Kajo Keji, WCHO remains committed to creating resilient livelihoods, strengthening food security and fostering sustainable development for a healthier and more prosperous future.

As a Christian-led organization, Women and Children Health Organization (WCHO) conducts daily morning devotions before the commencement of official duties. Today's devotion was based on Proverbs 18:14 which emphasizes that a resilient spirit enables an individual to endure physical illness, adversity and life's challenges whereas a broken spirit can make such circumstances overwhelming and difficult to bear.

The devotion was facilitated by our Programme Manager who highlighted resilience as the ability to recover from setbacks and emerge stronger from challenging situations. A key takeaway from the session was the importance of cultivating resilience as a critical personal attribute that empowers individuals to navigate hardships effectively, maintain a positive outlook and continue progressing despite obstacles.“Resilient means bouncing back better”

Women and Children Health Organization (WCHO) was proudly represented by the Executive Director Precious Koputo Maureen at the CSO Pre-Conference to the Third Regional Dialogue on Feminist Funding for Women’s Movements in East and Southern Africa held in Nairobi, Kenya from 25-27 May 2025.

The engagement provided an important platform for strengthening regional feminist movements through strategic dialogue, coalition-building, knowledge exchange and collective advocacy aimed at promoting sustainable, accessible and transformative feminist funding mechanisms for women’s rights organizations across East and Southern Africa.

AWARENESS ON GBV AND CHILD PROTECTION.

1200 (F=700, M=500) community members were reached through two (3) sessions of mass community awareness conducted on 2nd December 2025. These sessions were conducted at Food Distribution Field in the Protection of Civilians (PoC) community during soap distribution done by International Organization for Migration (IOM).
During the sessions, key topics discussed with the participants included Gender Based Violence (understanding GBV, types and common forms of violence, root causes, contributing factors and preventive measures. Under Child Protection, key areas of focus included the common child protection concerns, ways of preventing abuse, exploitation of children and positively challenged the community to understand their roles in protecting the children). The awareness also enlightened the community on the GBV and Child Protection referral pathways.
Key issues raised by some of the participants included limited livelihood opportunities, poverty, child labor and lack of school fees for the children.
Action points were developed by participants including provision of income generating activities to boast livelihood, provision of educational support for Out of School Children (prioritizing orphans and vulnerable children) and continuous community awareness with much focus on the values of education, dangers of child labor and the benefits of embracing non-violent relationships in order to bring behavioral/mindset change of some of the community members.

TRAINING OF TEACHERS AND OTHER EDUCATION PERSONNELS ON GBV, CHILD PROTECTION, PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT AND RISK MITIGATION. (DECEMBER 2025)

In South Sudan, years of conflict, displacement and poverty have created significant challenges for education, particularly for children who have experienced trauma and other mental health problems. Many teachers lack the necessary training and skills to address these issues, which affect learners' academic progress and well-being. To address this, WCHO in a consortium with FCA through funding from DG ECHO built the capacity of teachers and other education personnel’s on psychosocial support, Child Protection, GBV and risk mitigation in Malakal, Upper Nile state.
Participants included 32(M=23, F=09) teachers, 02 County Education Directors of Malakal City Council and Panyikang county and 01 official from State Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare.
The topics covered during the training under Psychosocial included stress and relaxation, circle of influence, compassion in classrooms, how to identify and support learners with Mental Health and Psychosocial concerns and challenging behaviors as teachers, how to provide Psychological First Aid and make referrals and exercises and activities for the learners to enhance their mental wellbeing. Under GBV, key areas of focus included the types, root causes, contributing factors, negative effects and preventive measures and the SGBV referral pathway.
Under child protection, the areas that were covered included; understanding of child protection, the key elements of Child Protection, why the need to protect children, the common child protection concerns, the protective environment, the procedures for supporting children with special needs e.g children with disabilities and the child protection referral pathway.
On risk mitigation, the areas included; how to identify and mitigate risks in the school environment, such as bullying, unsafe infrastructure, and risks related to conflict or natural disasters. The training was blended with group discussions and role plays.
