Banat Power was proud to participate in the two day Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Workshop, hosted by the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) of South Sudan at the Crown Hotel in Juba.

Through engaging sessions on transformative leadership, intergenerational mentoring, political literacy, and adaptive leadership, we joined fellow advocates in elevating the WPS agenda.

We remain committed to strengthening collective action to advance women’s leadership, security, and active participation in peacebuilding across South Sudan.

Day 2 of the BanatRise Mentorship Program in Wau was all about understanding ourselves and learning how to better understand others.

The girls explored Self-Awareness — “Knowing Me, Respecting My Body”, reflecting on their values, identities, dreams and personal boundaries. Through the Identity Tree activity, they had the opportunity to discover what shapes them, what they value and what they hope to become. We also connected self-awareness to body ownership, personal boundaries, SRHR and protection from abuse.

We then explored Empathy — “Understanding Others Without Judging.” Through group discussions and practical scenarios, the girls reflected on body-shaming, emotional abuse, respect for body diversity and how they can become safe and supportive bystanders.

The room was filled with honest conversations, creativity, laughter and learning. The girls continue to show that they are ready to know themselves, respect themselves, understand others and become positive change-makers in their communities.

One day at a time. One girl at a time. Building confidence, knowledge and a community where girls can thrive.

Day One of BanatRise Mentorship in Wau!

The journey has officially begun!

The first day of the BanatRise Mentorship Program in Wau, and the excitement, energy and willingness to learn among the girls was truly inspiring. We began with an orientation where the mentees were introduced to the programme, its purpose, expectations and the journey ahead.

With the support of Amref Health Africa in South Sudan with funding from UNFPA South Sudan we are able offer a safe space. From the conversations, questions and participation, it was clear that the girls are ready to learn, grow, build confidence, discover themselves and support one another.

This is more than a mentorship programme—it is a space for girls and young women to find their voices, build meaningful connections and believe in their ability to create change in their communities.

The BanatRise journey in Wau has begun.

Empowering women isn’t just a goal, it’s the foundation for a resilient continent.

Yesterday at Nyakuron Cultural Center,Juba, change makers, leaders, entrepreneurs and advocates gathered for the South Sudan National Consultation on the 2nd Egumeni Dialogue centered on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, organized by Banat Power Initiative.

Under the theme "Building a Resilient Africa Through Accelerated Women’s Financial and Economic Inclusion," key conversations were driven forward through group discussions to ensure young women and girls have the economic opportunities, financial tools, and leadership space they deserve.

When women thrive economically, whole communities rise.

Real change happens when young leaders step up to challenge norms and drive climate solutions from the ground up.

Banat Power Initiative was honored to join the Training of Trainers on Transforming Social Norms for Climate Resilience in South Sudan, organized by UNFPA South Sudan. The sessions brought together youth advocates, male champions, community innovators, and policy partners to tackle the intersection of climate change, gender equality, and social transformation.

Through interactive exchanges, we explored ways to host inclusive community dialogues, break down systemic barriers, and promote fair decision-making at every level. Equipping young women and community members with these tools is essential to building lasting environmental resilience across South Sudan.
Sustainable climate action must be community-led and gender-inclusive. When we empower youth to lead the conversation, we unlock real impact.

It’s one thing to talk about youth empowerment, but seeing 50 dedicated young women step up to sharpen their leadership, critical thinking, and problem solving skills is where real change happens.
Grateful for the incredible partnership with Banat Power Initiative, Amref Health Africa, UNFPA, and the Ministry of Gender, Child & Social Welfare for making this mentorship journey possible.
Rise up, step out, and lead.
