WHY DO YOU SERVE GOD?

Beloved, today I will like us to ponder on this question.. " Why do you serve God, do you fear God for no reason?
In the book of Job, Satan is seen to challenge God on the point that man is only faithful to God because of God's provision, pointing to job; Satan challenged that job will deny God if he loses everything, in other words; man serves God for reason of needs not necessarily serving God for who He is... Satan said
Job 1:9 (ESV)
"Then Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for no reason"
Beloved, the Bible says "Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine.."(see: 2 Corinthians 13:5) do you serve God for who He is or do you have a reason for serving God..
~ There are many who serve God because the need blessings
~ There are some who serve God because they need a partner
~ There are some who serve God because of their profession
~ There are some who serve God because of their family
~ There are some who serve God because they need protection
~ There are some who serve God because they need healing
~ There are some who serve God because of the FEAR of torment
~ There are some who serve God because of stigma in the society
~ There are some who serve God because it's fashionable
~ There are some who serve God because everything seems to be going on well in their lives
~ There are some who serve God because they have or need food
ETC......
Beloved, inasmuch as these are valid reasons to honor God, the question or challenge is.."Will you still trust God even if you lose everything? Are you obeying Him even in the most difficult moment?
• There are many who have become Atheist because God did not meet their expectations of things they had wished to see in their lives
• They are many who don't serve God because they or someone did not receive a particular healing
• They are many who don't serve God because of a particular person's mistake
• They are many who don't serve God because they love the pleasures of sin
ETC....
Sometimes troubles can encompass a believer in a way logic cannot comprehend it, as believers we need to understand WHO GOD IS to really hold on to what He is doing in our lives.
The Bible says;
Isaiah 55:8-9
"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways," declares the LORD.
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts."
God has wonderful plans for us in the midst of difficulties, if we are able to remain faithful and trust Him, we will see His glory at the end of the challenge... Would you hold unto God when you are tempted? Would you remain faithful till the end?
Satan's challenge is that, man cannot be faithful to God if he loses all he has or his faith is being shaken.
Will you still be faithful to God even in difficult times?
Satan may attack your finances, health, marriage, family, work, school..etc. all in a bit to frustrate your relationship with God?
Satan said
Job 1:11
"But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”
Beloved, Satan is still using the same tactics on believers who are facing difficult moments...
• You may feel tormented by people around you because you desire to live holy and righteous for the Lord not condoning to their evil ways... never give in to the tactics of the devil. The Bible says;
2 Peter 2:8
"Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day."
Don't be surprised when you face persecution for desiring to live holy as a child of God in this sinful world, Jesus already told us that in this world we will have tribulation; trials; troubles however we Overcome all these through faith in Jesus and our joy is in Him.(See: John 16:33, 1 John 5:4)
2 Timothy 3:12
"Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution."
• In a World where sexual immorality is being promoted and practiced by many, living a chaste life or sexual purity has become awkward or laughable tempting people to flow with perversion...never give in to the tactics of the devil; the Bible says;
1 Thessalonians 4:3 NLT
"God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin."
• In financial crisis; the devil brings dubious means that seems to solve your finances easily;
e.g;
~ Many are tempted to give in to sexual immorality for financial gains or employment or a position
~ Many are tempted to involve in bribery and corruption
~ Many are tempted to steal and kill
Etc....
When these dubious means shows up in your crisis, never give in to the tactics of the devil;
Satan challenges our faith in God by bringing circumstances that will shake us... will you stand in your time of shaking? God honors your faith and your faith honors God."For without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6)
What is the secret in standing in the faith during the storms?
STANDING FIRM

Beloved, today's message will not be complete without understanding the secret to job's faith to take a stance in trusting God despite losing everything, the secret to job's victory over Satan's challenge is his Faith... Let us look at certain principles in developing the Job kind of faith in overcoming the challenges of life.
The first principle is;
¶1. KNOW HIM
-----------------------
To know God means to have a personal relationship with Him, knowing God personally can bring us to a point of trusting Him.
Many people know ABOUT God but the don't KNOW HIM... the Bible says;
"He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:" Psalms 103:7
Beloved, Moses knew the WAYS of God because he had an intimate relationship with Him the people instead knew ABOUT GOD because they saw his acts or deeds yet did not know Him. God reveals His character to those who surrender their hearts to Him
Have you surrended your heart to Jesus?....
The Bible says;
John 14:21
"Those who ACCEPT my commandments and OBEY THEM are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and REVEAL MYSELF to EACH OF THEM.” (Emphasis)
God will reveal Himself to you if you surrender your heart in obedience to Jesus
If you know Him, He will reveal Himself to you, as He revealed His ways or character to Moses, Job knew God and his relationship with Him was based on Who God is.
Do you know God for who He is? or you know Him for His deeds?
When we begin to know God personally for who He is in our lives and have a relationship with Him, nothing, absolutely nothing can separate us from His love for us, our hearts will fear Him and yield to His ways and His love...it is at this point of knowing God for who He is that we are able to take a stance in faithfulness to Him.
Knowing God for who He is and accepting Him in our hearts is very important in transforming us as people of faith...e.g:
~ Abraham knew who God is and therefore he never staggered in his faith, in the promise of God eventhough everything seems impossible..
the Bible says
Romans 4:19-21
[19]And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.
[20]Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.
[21]He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises."
If you know who God is, you will be fully convinced of His promise, Abraham knew that God is able to do whatever He promises because of who He is?
Do you know the God you serve? Do you know Him?
~ The three Hebrew young men; Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah knew the God the served, they knew who God is and accepted to obey Him despite the consequences... they replied;
Daniel 3:17-18
[17] If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve IS ABLE TO SAVE US. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.
[18] BUT EVEN IF HE DOESN'T, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that WE WILL NEVER SERVE your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”(Emphasis mine)
When you know God for who He is and Accept Him in obedience He will reveal Himself to you, they three Hebrew young Men said "God is able to save us, but even if he doesn't we will never serve your god's"
Beloved, when you know God for who He is nothing else matters, your circumstances cannot affect the revelation of God in your life... that is the power of the EVEN IF faith because you know God for who He is;
1. Even if you don't receive that healing at the time you expect, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
2. Even if you don't receive that pregnancy at the time you expect, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
3. Even if you don't receive that marriage partner at the time you expect, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
4. Even if you don't receive that money at the time you expect, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
5. Even if you lost a loved one and didn't expect that, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
6. Even if you didn't receive that breakthrough at the time you expect, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
7. Even if you lost your work because of your faith, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
8. Even if you are in prison because of your faith, you will still trust Him because you know who He is
Etc....
When you know God for who He is, you will trust Him....Job said;
Job 13:15a kjv
"Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him;"
Though troubles or calamities surround you, yet you will trust or hope in Him because you know Who He is....He is Faithful. The Bible says;
James 1:2-4
[2]Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
[3]For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
[4]So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
The second principle of standing firm is;
¶ 2. FEED ON THE WORD TO OBEY

After knowing Him, spending time with the Word builds faith in us, "For Faith comes from hearing the Word of God" (Rom 10:17)
They more we spend time with God's Word the more we are filled with the Holy Spirit and fire, the Word sets our hearts on fire to stand for the truth(See: Jer 20:9)... David said;
Psalms 119:11
"I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."
Do you have the Word of God in your heart?
Do you have time for personal Bible studies and meditation?
Job faced alot of temptations, through it all he was faithful to endure because he had a SECRET;...Job said;
Job 23:12
"I have not departed from His commands, but have TREASURED HIS WORDS MORE THAN daily FOOD." (Emphasis)
Beloved, pay close attention here; Job said "I have treassured His Words more than daily food"... That is the secret, the more you spend time in the Word the more you are transformed from glory to glory ( 2 Cor 3:18,Rom 12:2)
Job treassured and obeyed God's Word above all things and that gave him the strength to withstand the storms of life and the challenge of Satan.
Jesus said;
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25
When we spend time with the Word of God and puts it into practice we are building a foundation on the rock, when the storms of life; challenges or difficult moments comes our way we will still be standing tall in the faith..Job had a foundation in the Word that made him immovable
Are you wondering why your faith is shaking?
Check your foundation:...
√ We can spend 8-12hours watching seasonal movies but hardly spend 5 minutes to read and meditate on the Word and we are suprised we are not growing in the faith
√ When we keep our Bibles closed in our shelves and under our pillows throughout the week and only remember it when we are going to church don't be suprised if you are not growing in the faith
√ When we have no time to read the Bible for ourselves and deligate it to pastors it will not be surprising to see how people are easily deceived by false prophets. The Bible says "My people perish for lack of knowledge" Hosea 4:6
√ When entertainment and sexually explicit contents interests us more yet we wonder why we are struggling with lustful thoughts, ma********on or po*******hy and we can hardly spend 5 minutes to read and meditate on the Word.
√ We spend hours praying amidst because we lack knowledge of the Word and wonder why God is not answering us and we find it difficult to read the will of God in the Bible because we don't have time to search the scriptures.
√. We easily fall to the tactics of the devil because we have no Word in us and hardly spend 1 minute to read and meditate on the Word
√ You easily fall into the sin of immorality because you hardly spend 5 minutes to read and meditate on the Word and don't be suprised you are not growing in the faith
√ This generation has carried more Bibles than any other generation yet without opening it..
Etc...
Check your foundation...If you want a firm foundation in the LORD, spend time with the Word
The third principle in standing firm is
3. ¶ PRAYER AND SACRIFICE

Constant communication builds strong relationship, the more you are intouch the more you are attached... The more you spend time talking to God in prayer the stronger you build your relationship with Him.
Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend...God commands us to pray without ceasing (1 Thess 5:17)
Prayer is the lifeline of every believer and the breathe for the soul
Job was noted with his attitude of prayer and sacrifices to God, he talked to God on daily basis and thanked God for everything.
Our life of prayer and our lips of Thanksgiving honors God in the most difficult moments of our lives..in the midst of the troubles, Job still prayed and thanked God..
Job 1:20 (Emphasis)
"Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the GROUND to WORSHIP."
Beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord, no matter what you are facing, these principles of faith can help us to stand firm as faithful saints. Satan may throw his challenge on us however, we are more than conguerers through Christ who strengthens us; the Holy Spirit is with us and in us and so we are victorious in Christ Jesus.
Final word:
2 Corinthians 4:8-11
"We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.
We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.
Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies."
Beloved, will you deny Jesus in the face of temptations or troubles by falling into the tactics of the devil; in disobedience?. Heaven is counting on you, hold fast till He comes...Jesus loves you!
