FoWE Field Update | Kasese, Uganda πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬

FoWE Family,
We are glad to share that Mr. Simon Yonama - Project Coordinator has safely arrived in Kasese and was warmly received by the Country Executive Director of AKWF.

Today:
Productive meeting held on how to strengthen FoWE’s partnerships with AKWF and donors. This was a preparatory meeting for tomorrow.

Tomorrow:
1. MoU Signing between FoWE & AKWF
2. MoU draft will be shared with Mr. Martin Onjerinawa for review. Martin will sign upon Simon’s return to Juba.
3. The meeting will be LIVE. _Martin Onjerinawa, please confirm your online attendance._

Partnership Focus Areas:
1. Health- Proposal for reactivation of Tore PHCC - documents ready
2. Conservation - Awareness campaigns
3. Livelihoods- Tailoring machines for women + Solar water, boreholes & roof harvesting for schools/hospitals
4. Vocational Schools - Computers, tools & chairs
5. Agriculture - Farmer tools to support farmers

46 NEW RANGERS FOR LANTOTOπŸ˜πŸ‡Έ

For the first time, Lantoto National Park has graduated its own wildlife rangers.

46 men and women have completed intensive law enforcement and anti-poaching training to protect the park’s forest elephants, bongo antelopes, and other wildlife across 760kmΒ² of forest.

Speaking at the graduation, Undersecretary Maj. Gen. Peter Loro Albert urged them:
> _"We are not graduating you to harm citizens, but rather training and graduating you to protect these animals."_

This is a major step for conservation in South Sudan β€” from Lantoto to the Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape, home to the world’s largest land mammal migration.

FOWE COMMENDS MINISTRY OF HEALTH FOR SUPPORT TOWARD PRIMARY HEALTHCARE IN CES

Juba, 31 July 2026

Friends of Wildlife and Environment (FOWE) sincerely thank the Ministry of Health - Central Equatoria State Minister of Health, Hon, Joyce Bakuwa Agole for receiving our delegation today and for her continued guidance.

We are grateful for the Ministry’s recognition of our progress in fulfilling all requirements for partnership, including registration, MoU signing, and national endorsement.

FOWE reaffirms its commitment to work with the State Ministry of Health to support the reactivation and strengthening of Primary Health Care Centres across Central Equatoria State, starting with Tore PHCC most specially Tore PHCC Reactivation.

We appreciate the Minister’s call to proceed with implementation and her assurance of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate. Together, we will work to ensure communities have access to quality healthcare services.

β€ŽThe Central Equatoria State Minister of Health, Hon. Joyce Bakwa Agole, today received a progress update from the Friends of Wildlife and Environment (FoWE) during a courtesy visit to her office in Juba.
β€Ž
β€ŽThe meeting aimed to brief the Ministry on the organization's progress in fulfilling the requirements for formal collaboration with the State Ministry of Health. The FOWE delegation reported that the organization has successfully obtained its official registration documents from the relevant authorities and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Health through the Director General, Dr. James Wani.

β€ŽThe delegation was led by the Operations Director, Mr. Martin, accompanied by the Project Coordinator, Mr. Simon Gift.

β€ŽSpeaking during the meeting, Hon. Joyce Bakwa Agole commended the FOWE leadership for their commitment to complying with the Ministry's guidance and for taking the necessary steps to formalize their partnership with the health sector.

β€ŽThe Minister further recommended that FOWE proceed with the implementation of its intended projects aimed at supporting Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) across Central Equatoria State. She emphasized that such initiatives will complement the Government's efforts to strengthen primary healthcare services and improve access to quality healthcare for communities.

β€ŽHon. Joyce Bakwa Agole reaffirmed the Ministry's readiness to collaborate with credible national organizations that are dedicated to improving healthcare delivery and promoting the well-being of the people of Central Equatoria State.

β€ŽThe meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation, coordination, and partnership in advancing quality health services across Central Equatoria State.
