🥳 Celebrating a Milestone in Documenting South Sudanese Names! 🇸🇸

​We're so thrilled to share the incredible progress of our project focused on Documenting Names and Pronunciation!

Our work to improve and upload names—including 125 Pages Edited, 975 Total Edits, and 171 new Claims Created on Wikidata—is a massive step forward. For Indigenous South Sudanese communities, names are more than labels; they are vital vessels of heritage, lineage, and cultural identity.

Documenting them on platforms like Wikipedia and Wikidata ensures that these rich stories, meanings, and correct pronunciations are preserved for future generations and accessible to the entire world.

Three incredible days of intensive & extensive in Nairobi, Kenya brought together 500+ participants from across the globe to share knowledge, learn, connect & collaborate — building a world where information is free & accessible to all.

In collaboration with Reliable Refugee Storytellers we are documenting 750 South Sudanese names, in consultation with community elders of 15 South Sudanese Dialects, this is an excise with an intent to continue preserving, archiving and documenting our stories and culture!

We are having all of this content available on the various Wikimedia Foundation platforms/projects but this one specifically will be on Wikidata.

Take time and visit the site to have access to the various tribes and maybe also know the meaning of your name!
