Key highlights of the first day.
Ambassador Salah opened the program by outlining Agenda 2063, the African Union's 50-year master plan to transform Africa into a global powerhouse ("the Africa we want"). He explained that the AU is currently implementing Aspiration 3 which focuses on good governance, democracy, human rights, justice, and the rule of law serving as the core reason for the convening. emphasizing the need for collective responsibility to build the Africa we deserve, he urged the delegates to actively strategize on how they can implement Agenda 2063.

Ambassador Javine congratulated the delegates on being selected for the continental Youth Capacity Building Program on African Union Shared Values Instruments, emphasizing that they earned their selection by beating out over 8,000 applicants. He officially announced that the participants were now ambassadors of the African Union, noting that the program provides them with a direct opportunity to engage with AU shared values instruments to strengthen the vital skills required for responsible leadership.

Lastly, Ambassador W***y, the Permanent Representative of Burundi to the African Union, and the guest of honour of the day commended the delegates for not waiting for an invitation to Africa’s future, but instead actively knocking on the doors. He stressed that they can no longer tell African youth they are the leaders of tomorrow because Africa needs their leadership today, noting that the youth are Africa's greatest asset. He highlighted that youth are too often viewed merely as beneficiaries rather than true partners in governance, and insisted that this narrative must change.

The AWHO Executive director Ms Moni Tabitha has joined 100 African young leaders in Addis Ababa for the continental youth capacity building program. The AGA-APSA Secretariat will convene a Continental Youth Capacity Building Programme at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia starting on the 25th of August, anchored in the African Union Shared Values and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG), the Programme aims to equip youth to play proactive roles in advancing democracy, peace, and security at the national and continental levels.
Its main goal is to equip African youth leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to actively and meaningfully participate in democratic governance, human rights promotion, and electoral processes at the national and continental levels, in line with the African Union Shared Values and the aspirations of Agenda 2063.we wish her all the best in her program.

Historic international youth day celebrated in Mundri East County Lui payam to champion peace and development.

Mundri East County recently marked a historic milestone with its first-ever International Youth Day celebration in Lui Payam, organized by the Mundri East County Youth in conjunction with the African Women Help Organization (AWHO) and drawing more than 400 youth alongside Payam members. The successful event was made possible through the support of key partners—including AWHO, Markaz al Salam, YMCA, SPEDUP and notable leaders from Greater Mundri, such as TNLA Rt. Hon. Speaker Joseph Ngere, Rt. Hon. Anna Tuna, Hon. Margaret Fozia, Hon. Yona, Hon. Lawrence Korbandy, and members of the diaspora community.
Addressing the gathering, the Executive Director of the African Women Help Organization Ms Moni Tabitha urged the youth to remain organized so they can be effectively supported. Emphasizing that the youth of Mundri East County stand firmly for peace and have committed themselves on International Youth Day to avoid causing chaos, she shared her vision that "one day the Mundri East County that is known to be a conflict zone will be one of the best counties of South Sudan if the youths do not allow themselves to be used as agents of conflicts."
Echoing this sentiment, Markaz al Salam Executive Director Ms. Agiba highlighted South Sudan’s National Youth Development Policy as a crucial step for strengthening youth participation, noting that it defines youth by age, recognizes young leadership, and provides a 20% quota for youth representation across national, state, county, payam, and boma levels. “Young people said, we want to be part of the leadership of the country,” she stated.
The Paramount Chief expressed deep regret over the hardships forcing his people into displacement as IDPs in foreign countries and payams, declaring his readiness to support security organs in maintaining peace. He urged security personnel not to beat any civilian upon arrest before investigating the root cause of problems, while also calling on citizens to respect security organs so they can reciprocate.
The Acting Commissioner also emphasized the vital need for peace and unity in the county to foster local development. The commemorative program concluded on a high note with a football tournament for peace between the IDPs and the host community that drew over 1,000 community members of Mundri East County together.

AWHO conducted it's first citizen talk for peace intergenerational dialogue being supported by United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Civil affairs division in Lui Mundri East County 23rd to 24th July bringing together total of 38 participants (11 females,5 security organs,Police,CID, MI, SSPDF, NS, 1 community leader, 16 youths, 2 CSOs, 3 local government representatives to foster open communication, enhance local security coordination, and actively promote peaceful coexistence among all residents.

This collaborative platform, effectively addressed security challenges facing the community of Lui...through collective insight from both security organs and local government,the youths and community leaders now will work as partners and not enemies like before.
The activity ended with the youth committing to responsibilities of preventing violence and reporting early warning threats to the security organs.meanwhile, the security organs also committed to professional work and respect to human rights while executing their duties.

Preparatory meeting in Lui Payam with my able youths for an intergenerational dialogue grounded in establishing peacebuilding. this structured forum aims to bring together young women and men , traditional chiefs, Payam administrators, local authorities, police, national security representatives, and religious leaders to engage in a future-oriented discussion focused on shared aspirations, social cohesion, and collaborative leadership rather than past grievances. as usual gratitude to the European Union through the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung for their generous support for making this happen

Today the 4th of June AWHO team met with Mr. Emmanuel the Acting Head of Field Office (HOFO) for United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) (UNMISS) Western Equatoria State who is also the head of Civil affairs division with Madam Florence the civil affairs officer to brief them on one of United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) (UNMISS) quicks project, Also the team briefed the HOFO about the current situation in Mundri East county after the ROKON PEACE CONSENSUS and the need to follow up with the recommendations passed by the participants during the Engagement with the communities from Greater Mundri counties and the community of Terekeka County. the meeting also explored other ways on how the issue of cattle raiding in Western Equatoria State could be dealt with to bring lasting peace and promote coexistence between the two communities.

African women help organization (AWHO) successfully concluded a 5 days peer mentorship training to 20 participants in Mundri East County. The objectives of the training are to;

Cultivate Civic Engagement shifting from passive awareness to active engagement, encouraging volunteerism and leadership roles in the community.
To promote democratic Participation, to teach non-violent civic identity and promote participation in participatory and deliberative democratic processes.
Fostering Intergenerational Solidarity, to bridge generations, enabling the transfer of knowledge, values, and experiences to encourage future changemakers.
Active Citizenship, to foster citizen awareness about rights, anti-corruption, and democratic processes, turning passion into informed action.
Critical Thinking & Analysis, to encourage critical reflection on systemic issues such as inequality, social discrimination, and root causes of conflict.

The closing ceremony was attended by the Payam admin Mrs. Muraa Pasquale who appreciated the work done by AWHO encouraging the young participants to keep up the spirit of togetherness and carry whatever they have learnt to their localities. Being accompanied by Mr. George Popo the acting executive director who applauded the participants for sacrificing their time in exchange for knowledge. He also appreciated the work AWHO is doing and encourage for more similar trainings to other Payams of Mundri East County.
The executive director also praised the participants for active participation during the 5 days training and encouraged each to keep up to their commitment of mentoring 10 mentees each and more. AWHO appreciates its partner the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung for their support through the European Union in raising civil voices in Mundri East County.☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

African women help organization successively trained 200 diverse participants including displaced women 80 and men 13, youths 77, persons with disability (PWD) 20, civil society organizations (CSOS) 9 and 1 local government representative in Mundri East Lui Payam. The 12-days program recognized a discussion between participants aged 17 to 35. dividing the participants into four focused workshops of 50 people ensuring psychological safety, allowing for deep reflection on sensitive issues such as political rights, constitutional provisions, and inclusive governance. The training bridged the gap between legal theory and grassroots reality by making things easier for the South Sudanese transitional constitution into actionable civic tools. Throughout the training and interactive role playing, participants explained local power dynamics and practiced the crucial duties of both voters and elected officials. the immersive approach catalysed a significant cognitive shift, inspiring the group from 35% baseline of low civic knowledge to an 80% capability, ultimately strengthening the foundations for resilient, community led democratic participation.

Additionally, the workshops addressed the voters core exploring the ethical dimensions of civic duty. rather than just teaching the procedure of voting, the sessions emphasized the viewpoint of democracy the idea that a vote is a silent bond between the citizen and the state. In Mundri east where community ties are strong, the training highlighted how civic participations is an extension of community service by the end of the training, the 80% increase in knowledge was not merely a statistic, it represented 160 individuals who now understand how to read a ballot, how to hold a payam administrator accountable, and how to advocate for budget transparency in their local bomas.

A key milestone of the raising civil voices project was firm focus on the inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and women. While the report acknowledges the challenges in meeting the 40% PWD quota due to age demographics, the inclusion of 20 PWD participants represented a landmark shift for Mundri east. for the first in many local civic forums, the physical and communication barriers were systematically addressed. we are indeed grateful to the @ European Union through the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung for their support.

Inception workshop of Raising civil voices project 26th February 2026.
AWHO is greatful for the partnership between Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) with funding from the Union.
In this project,AWHO will be implementing the project titled "empowering displaced and host community youth in mundri East county for political and Democratic participation".
We aim to strengthen the capacity of 200 diverse groups comprising of Displaced women and youths,CSOs and county government not forgetting PWD to effectively participate in political and Democratic processes contributing to inclusive and sustainable peace.
