🇸🇸 July 9, 2026 South Sudan at 15: Let's Celebrate with Purpose
As we approach 9 July, the Independence Day of South Sudan, we are seeking your ideas on how best to commemorate this important occasion in a way that promotes national unity, peace, social cohesion, and development.
One initiative already under consideration is a High-Level National Forum on Tribalism in South Sudan, bringing together policymakers, traditional leaders, religious leaders, youth, women, academics, civil society organizations, media practitioners, and development partners to discuss:
1. The roots and drivers of tribalism
2. Its impact on stability, rule of law, peace coexistence, governance, and development.
3. Lessons and best practices from South Sudan if it's there and from other countries.
4. The role of government, CSOs, political parties, communities, youth, women, media, religious and traditional leaders.
5. Practical strategies for promoting national identity and overcoming tribal divisions
The forum would conclude with a set of practical recommendations and actions for policymakers, institutions, communities, and citizens.
We would like to hear from you:
1. How should we celebrate 9 July this year?
2. What activities or initiatives would best promote unity and nation-building?
3. What additional topics should be discussed during the proposed forum?
4. How can such initiatives be financed and sustained? Should we explore sponsorships, partnerships, fundraising campaigns, membership contributions, grants, or other innovative approaches?
