Academic Updates by Specialization;
The MiA leadership reviewed the scholars individually based on their academic fields:
1) Martha (Pharmacy): Currently sat for 8 courses.
2) Monica (Public Health): Completed 7 courses during her first semester.
3 and 4) Vicky & Joy (Accounting & Finance): Completed 6 courses each during their first semester exams in the School of Business and Management Science.
Note: Pending their results, all scholars reported that, they have written their exams well, though Botany was specifically noted as a difficult subject by one student.
The following are the challenges Faced by Scholars:
Most students face financial difficulties securing transport money.
University regulations only provide soft copies of materials, forcing students to pay out-of-pocket to print handouts.
Students struggle to balance study time with side hassles required to make ends meet.
Opportunities Identified
Scholars expressed gratitude for receiving the scholarship opportunity.
Access to a network of talented, advanced students at the university.
The Way Forward & Leadership Advice:
MiA leadership advised the Scholars to stay resilient despite university challenges.
The Students were urged to carry themselves with respect, dignity, and integrity to avoid disciplinary actions ("Disco cases").
MiA encouraged students to keep their focus sharp and maintain their academic momentum.
On Financial Responsibility; MiA has fully lived up to its obligations. Scholars must urgently clear any remaining personal balances and not drag debt into the next semester.
Inspirational Testimonies on Perseverance:
One MiA member shared his journey of pushing a wheelbarrow and working as a bus conductor before completing his education and improving his life. He advised students to accept any part-time work (Badidoor) without being selective.
Another member highlighted his experience working in construction during his studies to achieve his current success.
The leadership emphasized enduring temporary hardship now to reap lifelong benefits.
Resolutions and Conclusions
i) MiA resolved to conduct regular and timely meetings at the start or end of every semester.
ii) Plans are underway to invite parents/guardians to a meeting in the near future.
iii) MiA reaffirmed its vision for women and girls' promotion, but promised to extend scholarships to boys as future opportunities arise.
Finally, on their part, the scholars thanked the MiA leadership for their support and promised to make the community proud.
