HARNESSING DREAMS

Last year, MiRYA-SS with support from Community Support Initiative -CSI and War Child South Sudan - Juba conducted sport activity which brought remarkable primary and secondary schools together in Jonglei State.

Primary Schools were involved in athletic and secondary schools in football games. Children and youth showcased their talents which resulted in sponsorship to more than 30 pupils and students who were seen talented and most of them comes from weak and vulnerable family background.

This is not just a memory, it's a story that remind us of a responsibility to help create opportunities for each vulnerable person.

Much appreciation to institutions like Amazing Grace High School , 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦my, Bethel SDA Nursery and Primary School, God Promised Academy among others.

JUBA - South Sudan is moving closer to approving four education policies aimed at training more teachers, increasing the number of women in classrooms and improving learning outcomes for children, officials said on Wednesday.

The Ministry of General Education met lawmakers, education partners and civil society groups in Juba to seek support for the proposals before submitting them to the Cabinet and Parliament.

Education Minister Kuyok Abol Kuyok said years of consultations and technical reviews had been completed and that the next step was to turn the proposals into law.

"The work of policy development is largely complete. The task before us now is to convert these policies into legal frameworks that will guide education reforms for many years," Kuyok said.

The proposed reforms cover teacher education, early childhood education, inclusive education and measures to increase the number of female teachers.

UNICEF country representative Noala Skinner said South Sudan faced a severe shortage of qualified teachers and that the reforms could help address the gap.

"South Sudan needs more than 60,000 additional qualified teachers," Skinner said, adding that the policy would provide a framework for teacher training and professional development.

Women currently make up only 18% of South Sudan's teaching workforce, and the proposed affirmative action policy seeks to increase their representation, Skinner said.

If approved, the policies would provide a legal framework for teacher development, school inspection, early childhood education and greater inclusion in schools as part of the government's broader education reform efforts.

Every year following the World Schools Debating Championships, the African Schools Debate Council puts together our imaginary Africa All-Star Teams — a celebration of the continent’s finest young debaters on the world stage.

This year, with 16 African countries represented at Worlds, we have expanded to 4 All-Star Teams : Africa A, B, C, and D; the biggest lineup yet!

Teams are based on the individual rankings of African students at the World Championships, reflecting the incredible depth of talent we brought to this year’s competition.

Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 Mastercard Foundation Postgraduate Scholarships at the University of Rwanda.

The programme will select 30 scholars for eligible two-year Master’s programmes and is open to qualified Rwandans and other African nationals facing significant economic or social barriers.

Priority is given to women, applicants in STEM, refugees and displaced youth, and persons with disabilities.

Scholarship benefits

Key eligibility requirements

Applicants must:

✅ Be a Rwandan or citizen of another African country
✅ Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree
✅ Apply for admission to an eligible University of Rwanda Master’s programme for September 2026
✅ Demonstrate financial or social need
✅ Show leadership potential and community involvement
✅ Not be currently enrolled at another tertiary institution
✅ Be no older than 40 for men or 45 for women

Continuing University of Rwanda students are not eligible.
