Voice of Freedom is a project integrated with Change Nickerie, focused on eliminating gender-based violence and human trafficking in Suriname. In Nickerie County, the project aims to prevent domestic and gender-based violence, while providing better protection for affected women and children. Main focus :

🚨Violencia de género en la región de la CARICOM 🌎

La violencia de género en la región de la CARICOM se alimenta de retos profundamente arraigados:

⚖️ Desigualdades de género: Las disparidades persistentes contribuyen a crear entornos en los que la violencia contra las mujeres a menudo se pasa por alto o no se aborda suficientemente.

Normas culturales: Las creencias sociales y la masculinidad tóxica perpetúan la discriminación de género y los estereotipos nocivos sobre el papel de la mujer.

🏛️ Instituciones débiles: Los sistemas judiciales infradotados y los servicios de apoyo inadecuados dejan a las víctimas sin la ayuda que necesitan desesperadamente.

Juntos debemos hacer frente a estas injusticias y trabajar por un futuro más seguro y equitativo para todos y todas. 💪✨

👉 El proyecto ¡Change Nickerie! pretende mejorar un sistema integrado de prevención y asistencia (que incluya legislación, sanidad y política) para las mujeres y niñas víctimas de la violencia de género en Nickerie, Surinam. Pretende mejorar los derechos y la protección de mujeres y niñas en Surinam, con el objetivo a largo plazo de prevenir la violencia doméstica y de género.

🌎 Gender-Based Violence in the CARICOM Region 🚨

Gender-Based Violence in the CARICOM region is fueled by deeply rooted challenges:

⚖️ Gender Inequalities: Persistent disparities contribute to environments where violence against women is often overlooked or insufficiently addressed.

📚 Cultural Norms: Social beliefs and toxic masculinity perpetuate gender discrimination and harmful stereotypes about women’s roles.

🏛️ Weak Institutions: Underfunded judicial systems and inadequate support services leave victims without the help they desperately need.

Together, we must challenge these injustices and work towards a safer, more equitable future for all. 💪✨

Gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment, is common in the Caribbean region.

According to a UN study, rates of domestic violence in the Caribbean are among the highest in the world. Around 30% of women in the region have been physically or sexually abused by an intimate partner at least once in their lives.

The Change Nickerie! project aims to improve an integrated system of prevention and assistance (including legislation, health and policy) for women and children who are victims of gender-based violence in Nickerie. It aims to improve the rights and protection of women and children in Suriname, with the long-term objective of preventing domestic and gender-based violence.
