: Turning Research into Policy Action

On 3 September 2026, CIAG opened a two-day training on Developing Policy Briefs on Gender-Responsive Electoral Code of Conduct Reform for the Women-Led Electoral Reform Taskforce.

The training focuses on transforming research and evidence into clear, practical policy recommendations that can contribute to discussions on electoral reform and women’s political participation.

Through this initiative, CIAG continues to strengthen women’s capacity to understand electoral systems, identify barriers to participation, and contribute meaningfully to policy and reform processes.

: Preparing 82 Women for Parliament – PODW-2026

The Women Advisory Office of the Somaliland House of Representatives has concluded a three-day preparatory training for 82 women selected from government institutions, political parties, and civil society across Somaliland, with support from CIAG.

The training covered parliamentary functions, the Constitution, legislative processes, parliamentary procedures, and media engagement—preparing participants for their upcoming experience inside the House.

Through PODW-2026, these 82 women will take their seats in Parliament, present mock legislative cases, and bring their professional knowledge and lived experiences into a parliamentary setting.

This is more than a training. It is a space for women to understand Parliament, engage with the legislative process, and make their voices heard.

: Building Women’s Influence in Electoral Reform

CIAG has launched a three-day Advocacy and Influence Workshop for 20 selected women focused on strengthening their role in the review and reform of Somaliland’s Electoral Law.

The training is equipping participants with the knowledge, confidence, and advocacy skills needed to engage effectively in policy processes and contribute to meaningful electoral reform.

When women have the knowledge and space to influence policy, better decisions become possible.

A woman working in Burco’s local market has spoken publicly about an alleged incident involving physical mistreatment and verbal abuse during an encounter with police. Her account raises important concerns about the need for professional conduct, appropriate training, and respect for citizens during law-enforcement operations.

CIAG believes that maintaining public order should never come at the expense of dignity and respect. Concerns raised by citizens deserve to be heard, addressed through the appropriate channels, and handled with accountability.

This also reinforces why women’s voices must be represented in leadership and decision-making spaces—because women should have a meaningful role in shaping the policies and institutions that affect their lives.
