Women’s Initiative for Sustainable Future (WSF) is a women-led national non-governmental and nonprofit organization based in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF, with the generous support of action medeor e.V., successfully distributed 520 solar lanterns to vulnerable households in Deynille District following a needs-based assessment. This aims to improve household safety, reduce reliance on unsafe lighting sources, and support daily activities for families, especially women and children.

The provision of solar lanterns enhances protection at night, enables children to study after dark, and helps families reduce energy costs while promoting environmentally friendly solutions. Through this intervention, WSF continues to strengthen and improve living conditions for vulnerable households in as part of ongoing relief efforts.

Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF , with the generous support of action medeor e.V., successfully carried out the distribution of WASH-related non-food items to 525 vulnerable households in Deynille District, following a detailed needs assessment. The intervention aimed to strengthen hygiene practices, reduce the risk of disease, and address the health, protection, and dignity needs of families, especially women and children.

Households received essential items including Plastic bucket, Jerrycan for safe water storage, laundry soap, Aqua tabs and hygiene and sanitation materials for women and girls. These supplies support safer daily living conditions and help families maintain hygiene during challenging circumstances.

WSF remains committed to delivering community-centered, needs-based assistance and working alongside communities to improve well-being and resilience.

The session created space for open conversations, experience-sharing, and joint problem-solving to enhance protection at the community level.

Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF with funding support from action medeor e.V. and Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) successfully held a two-day training for young adults, schoolteachers and IDP leaders on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) among adolescents and young adults, with particular attention to school-related GBV and the importance of safe and protective learning environments.

The sessions focused on increasing understanding of GBV risks faced by displaced adolescents, strengthening prevention and response at school and community level, and promoting positive practices that help schools become safe spaces for learning and growth. Participants also discussed practical approaches to early identification, referral, and community engagement to support affected learners.
WSF continues to prioritize the safety, dignity, and well-being of adolescents and young adults in displacement settings.

Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF with the generous support of action medeor e.V. and funding from Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) conducted a two- day training for women from internally displaced persons (IDPs) communities in Deynille District, focusing on women’s rights and key protection issues. The training provided a safe space for learning, discussion, and experience-sharing, enabling participants to better understand their rights, identify protection risks, and know where and how to seek support.

Through interactive sessions, the women strengthened their knowledge on prevention of gender-based violence, available referral pathways, and community-based protection mechanisms, empowering them to play an active role in safeguarding themselves and others within their communities.

We are grateful for the commitment and engagement of all participants and partners in advancing protection, dignity, and resilience for displaced women.

Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF recently convened key policymakers, government ministries, CSOs, community elders, and religious leaders for an intensive day of dialogue and strategy development, funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and action medeor e.V.

This high-level meeting created a powerful platform to:
Analyze current gender gaps in policies and programs
Develop concrete action plans to institutionalize gender-responsive policies
Strengthen partnerships between national decision-makers and local stakeholders
Secure commitments for policy reforms that address women's economic empowerment, GBV prevention, and girls' education.

On 6th February, International day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF, in partnership with action medeor e.V., and funded generously by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) commemorated and stands united against FGM.

We honor the survivors and advocates who inspire us all. WSF is dedicated to raising awareness, educating communities, and taking action to end this harmful practice.

On December 17, 2024, Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF, in partnership with action medeor e.V. and funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), conducted a Community Dialogue Session on forms, early detection, response, and Community-Based Reporting Mechanisms.

Participants discussed the various forms of prevalent in , gaining a deeper understanding of this critical issue. Emphasis was placed on , identifying signs of GBV early to provide timely and effective support. The session explored effective to ensure that survivors receive the care they need. Practical insights were shared on establishing and utilizing mechanisms to enhance safety and justice.

Recent reports underscore the urgent need for action against GBV, with over 6 million Somalis in need of humanitarian assistance in 2024, highlighting the necessity of empowering our communities with the knowledge and tools to combat this issue. This session, attended by Camp leaders and the Deynille district leaders, provided invaluable resources and strategies to make a tangible difference.

Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF just wrapped up an informative 2-day training session focused on preventing Gender-Based Violence among adolescents and young adults. This crucial initiative tackled school-related GBV and aimed to create safe learning environments for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and schoolteachers.

In partnership with action medeor e.V. funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) , our sessions equipped participants with the knowledge and skills they need to fight and make schools safer. We covered early detection, response strategies, and how to utilize community-based reporting mechanisms.

Women's Initiative for Sustainable Future -WSF recently conducted a transformative 2-day training session on the prevention of Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) and reproductive health. This vital initiative, conducted in partnership with action medeor e.V. funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) equipped the project beneficiaries with the knowledge and skills to combat and promote reproductive health within our communities.

In Somalia, FGM remains a deeply entrenched practice, with 99.2% of women aged 15-49 having undergone the procedure. The training addressed the severe physical and psychological impacts of FGM and provided practical strategies for prevention and care.

Together, we can make a difference and create a safer, healthier future for all women and girls.
