During the first week of August, Youth Initiatives for Relief & Development - YIRDO organized grassroots awareness initiatives to highlight the vital role of breastfeeding in child survival, immunity, and overall development.
Breastfeeding is not just nutrition—it is a life-saving foundation for every child. Through our field teams, YIRDO continues to empower mothers and advocate for sustainable health solutions in vulnerable communities.

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, YIRDO is actively participating in community awareness campaigns to support maternal and child health across Somalia.

Proper nutrition starting from infancy is the cornerstone of a healthier future. We remain committed to strengthening community health, improving nutrition, and supporting mothers. 💙

Empowering Women & Strengthening Protection in IDP Camps | Daynile, Mogadishu
Today, the YIRDO team conducted a community awareness session in an IDP camp in Daynile District, Banadir Region, bringing together women and other vulnerable community members to discuss protection, personal safety, and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV).
Women and girls living in displacement face increased risks due to inadequate shelter, overcrowded living conditions, limited privacy, and ongoing protection challenges. Raising awareness is a vital step toward empowering communities with the knowledge and confidence to recognize risks, seek support, and access available protection services.
Through these awareness sessions, YIRDO is committed to promoting dignity, strengthening community resilience, and fostering a safer environment where women and girls can live free from violence, discrimination, and fear.
Every woman and girl deserves to live in safety, with dignity, and with hope. Together, we can build stronger, more protective communities for all.
