When the Shabelle River dried up earlier this year, communities in district lost their main source of water, forcing families to rely on unsafe water and increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.
Through our project, Wardi Relief and Development Initiatives' rehabilitated four shallow wells in the district, restoring access to clean and reliable water for hundreds of households. Funded by action medeor e.V. and Bundesministerium fĂĽr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), this has reduced diseases, saves time spent on water collection, and improved safety for women and girls.

With support from action medeor e.V. and Bundesministerium fĂĽr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), our project has supported over 500 mothers in Jowhar district with home gardening, providing them with essential vegetable seeds such as onions, tomatoes, capsicum, carrots, hot pepper, and watermelon. This has allowed them to comfortably plant and harvest these vegetables in their homes for their daily household use.
“I get my daily vegetables from my garden, and cook for my children with ease,” says Asha Omar, one of the beneficiaries from Bulo Hajji. “Through this project, I now know the importance of vegetables in the growth and well-being of children and my family.”
“WARDI also gave us chicken (5 per person) whose eggs are of great nutritional value, especially fats and proteins,” added Muno Hussein Khalif, a lead mother from Banaaney village.

The first 1,000 days of a child’s life can determine a lifetime of health, growth, and development. Many families consume food without understanding its nutritional value, contributing to child malnutrition and frequent illness.

Through our project funded by action medeor e.V. and Bundesministerium fĂĽr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) , Wardi Relief and Development Initiatives' trains 80 mothers from 10 villages in each quarter, teaching them how to use locally available ingredients to prepare nutritious meals, improve infant feeding practices, and adopt better hygiene habits. This has turned everyday foods into life-saving solutions, resulting in healthier children, stronger families, and reduced reliance on external nutrition support.
