To love your child is not giving worldly material
Many parents work endlessly to give their children everything they never had. Better clothes, better phones, better toys, better comfort. And while there is nothing wrong with wanting your children to live better than you did, the real question is what kind of adults are we raising in the process.
Material things feel like love because they are easy to give. You can buy them, wrap them, and hand them over. But material things wear out. They break, they become outdated, and eventually they lose their value. What remains is the mindset, the character, and the values a child carries into the world.
What children truly need are the lessons we were never taught. How to think for themselves. How to manage emotions. How to handle failure without giving up. How to respect others and themselves. How to build discipline, patience, and resilience in a world that rewards shortcuts and instant gratification.
Teaching a child how to earn is more powerful than giving them everything. Teaching them how to think is more valuable than giving them what to spend. Teaching them how to stand strong when life gets hard will protect them far longer than any expensive gift ever could.
Knowledge stays. Wisdom compounds. Values guide decisions long after money is gone. A child who understands responsibility, effort, and integrity can rebuild anything they lose. A child who only knows comfort will struggle the moment comfort is taken away.
The greatest gift you can give your children is not the life you wished you had, but the lessons that would have saved you years of pain. Teach them what life never taught you, and you will give them something no one can take away.✅
