International Women’s Day

As you might be aware of it, tomorrow is Global Women’ Day on 8 March 2021 and all women in the world dedicated to celebrate the acts of courage and determination for women who have a vital role in decision making process from different angles without discrimination and isolated.

Hargeisa Women Organization is women-led organization based in Somaliland who are fully committed to take part in tweeting the celebration of International Women’s Day at Hargeisa city in Somaliland.

Furthermore, our organization had a good track record & history on women empowerment in terms of gender based violence prevention, mitigation & response, women political participation & representation, reproductive health rights and women human rights.

In general, we hope that all women in the world will be heard their voices and support access to participate in decision making process for all, but in particular, the female candidates are seeking to access with political campaign fund to overcome the forthcoming local councils and parliamentary election process in Somaliland on 31 May 2021.

The Hargeisa Women Organization (HAWO-Group) is non- governmental, non-profit making and non-sectarian community based development organization founded in 1996 and is officially registered with the Somaliland Ministry of Planning & Coordination and the Attorney General Office. HAWO-Group is managed and led by elite women and men, grassroots women, and youth groups from various community sections in Somaliland with diverse professional, technical skills and innate intelligence as human resources. It was formed as a direct response to a long-felt need in the Somaliland country for a specialized organization to address pervasive issues and problems affecting women’s political, economic and social status in Somaliland post conflict situation.

The organization has the mandate of empowering poor and excluded people, with particular attention to increase rights awareness, increase abilities/capacities of women and girls to claim and enjoy rights through consciousness raising, alliance building, policy advocacy, capacity building and training strategies.

HAWO-Group programmes seek to promote holistic approach to address the complex dimensions of pervasive discrimination against women and girls socially, economically and politically. Potential solutions to challenge(s) facing women and girls and other vulnerable groups include in the areas of poverty, legal and customary constraints, education, health, food security and environment. All the stakeholders such as, beneficiaries, community elders, religious leaders, district commissionaires, municipality councils, regional governors, law enforcement officers, development workers, and civil society groups are involved throughout the process of women’s empowerment aspects. The Ministry of Family Affairs and Social Development, the Ministry of education and the Ministry of Interior are key government actors that are placed at the centre of the organization programme activities. Increasing awareness, alliance building and building the capacity of these stakeholders serve the cornerstone of the organization programmes.

HAWO-Group has more than 10 year plus track record and demonstrated sustainability and is respect among it is partners. The organization has an NGO status and is officially registered with Ministry of National Planning and Coordination in Somaliland.
