SOWDA Associationconducted a two-day training on Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) prevention and reproductive health at Primo Palace Hotel. 🌿 The training aimed to raise awareness, strengthen community knowledge, and promote positive change to protect the health, dignity, and rights of women and girls. 💜

🩷 The sessions focused on the harmful consequences of FGM, the importance of reproductive health education, and the need to protect women and girls from harmful traditional practices. Through interactive discussions and knowledge-sharing activities, participants explored ways to challenge harmful practices, promote informed health decisions, and encourage open conversations about reproductive health within their communities.

🤝 The training also highlighted the vital role of community members in preventing FGM, sharing accurate health information, and advocating for the rights and well-being of women and girls. 🌍 Together, communities can help create a safer and healthier future for every woman and girl.

✨ Through this initiative, SOWDA continues to promote gender equality, strengthen community awareness, and support a future where every woman and girl can live with dignity, enjoy better health, and be free from harmful practices.

On 23–24 September 2026, SOWDA Association conducted a two-day training in Shangani District on facilitating community dialogue sessions focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including GBV forms, early detection, response, and Community-Based Reporting Mechanisms (CBRM).

The training aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical skills to identify GBV cases, promote safe and confidential reporting, and support appropriate referral and response services within the community.

SOWDA Association, conducted a National Advocacy and Policy Influence Meeting in Mogadishu in partnership with action medeor e.V. and (BMZ),.

The meeting brought together 25 key stakeholders, including government representatives, community committees, traditional elders, and religious leaders, to strengthen gender-responsive policies at the district level.

Discussions focused on promoting inclusive governance, equitable access to healthcare, fair resource allocation, and stronger community protection mechanisms for women, children, and vulnerable groups.

SOWDA Association successfully conducted training on the Clinical Management of R**e and Intimate Partner Violence for healthcare providers, bringing together 15 health workers.

The training strengthened the capacity of frontline health professionals to provide timely, survivor-centered, and confidential medical care for women and girls affected by gender-based violence, contributing to improved maternal and child health and the protection of women’s rights.

SOWDA Association, in collaboration with action medeor e.V.Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)Z, conducted a capacity-building initiative in Shangani District focused on establishing and engaging community protection stakeholders and developing community protection mechanisms and action plans at district level.

The training brought together community members, local leaders, and key stakeholders to strengthen their understanding of women’s rights, maternal and child health, GBV prevention, self-esteem, and safe reporting systems. It also provided a platform to address harmful cultural practices and promote coordinated, community-led responses to protection concerns.

Participants were equipped with practical knowledge and skills to support the development and implementation of effective community protection structures and action plans within Shangani District. The initiative underscores the importance of collective responsibility and local ownership in safeguarding women and children.

The training focused on raising awareness about the serious consequences of Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) and strengthening the capacity of frontline community health workers to combat this harmful practice.

This initiative aims to empower these key community members to become advocates for change promoting safe, healthy practices and protecting the rights and well-being of women and girls.

SOWDA Association marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) by standing firmly for the rights, dignity, and futures of girls and women everywhere.

FGM is a violation of human rights. Ending this harmful practice requires sustained commitment, long-term investment, strong political will, and survivor-led, community-driven action.

Each year, millions of girls remain at risk. Silence is not an option. The time to accelerate action is now.

Together with its partners, SOWDA remains committed to protecting girls, supporting survivors, and building communities free from harmful practices.
