Somaliland Women’s Resource Centre (SWRC), in collaboration with Plan International, held an Intergenerational Dialogue on Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) under the SDC–GBV Prevention and Response in the Horn of Africa Project.
The session brought together mothers, grandmothers, adolescent girls, FGM survivors, and community and health workers to discuss the impacts of FGM and challenge harmful norms.
Through open dialogue, participants shared experiences, addressed myths, and strengthened their role in protecting girls and promoting a future free from FGM. Participants also called on the Parliament of Somaliland to pass a law criminalizing FGM and to strengthen protection for girls and women.

Yesterday, the Somaliland Women’s Resource Centre, in collaboration with Plan International through the SDC “GBV Prevention and Response in the Horn of Africa” project, held an awareness session for female university students from different universities, including deaf students.
Sign language interpretation was provided to ensure full participation and inclusion.
The session focused on preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Students learned about the types, causes, and impacts of GBV. They were also informed about how to report cases, the services available to support survivors, and the referral pathways they can use.
The goal was to help students understand GBV and feel confident to speak up, seek help, and support others.

Today on International Women’s Day 2026, Somaliland Women's Resource Centre, in collaboration with Plan International, through the SDC, GBV Prevention and Response in the Horn of Africa project, conducted an awareness session with caregiver mothers from the Isha Borama IDP community.
The session focused on Gender-Based Violence prevention, including understanding the types, causes, and impacts of GBV, as well as the basics of psychosocial support for caregivers and survivors. also discussed available referral pathways and support services to strengthen community protection systems and ensure survivors can access appropriate assistance.
Held in recognition of International Women’s Day 2026, under the global theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”, the session emphasized the importance of community awareness and empowering mothers to take an active role in preventing GBV.

The Somaliland Women's Resource Centre was pleased to welcome the ActionAid team and the SPAII monitoring team during their visit to Hargeisa. As an ActionAid partner, the team visited our office as part of the SPAII monitoring to review the IGNITE Fund project implemented by the Centre and to discuss its impact on women’s and youth leadership.
We value the continued collaboration and partnership that strengthen collective impact in Somaliland.

Today, Somaliland Women's Resource Centre held an inspiring knowledge-sharing session with Lucky Kassim, Chairperson of SWRC and COP30 participant.
She shared key lessons from COP30 in Belém, Brazil, highlighting the powerful role of women and youth in global climate action.
Participants discussed local climate solutions, shared ideas, and wrote personal commitments on how they will take action, support girls affected by climate change, and be part of climate initiatives in Somaliland.
Together, we’re building a just and inclusive climate future led by girls and young women 💚🌱
