South West State Child Protection Area of Responsibility (SWS CPAoR) Monthly Coordination Meeting

With the support of Save the Children in Somalia under the Danida SPA Programme, the Somali Child Welfare and Rights Watch (SCWRW) successfully organized the South West State Child Protection Area of Responsibility (SWS CPAoR) Monthly Coordination Meeting on 25 August 2026 at the Ministry of Womenโ€™s Conference Hall in Baidoa.

The meeting was facilitated by Mohamud Abdi on behalf of SCWRW and provided an important platform for child protection stakeholders, including CSO representatives, government authorities and international NGOs, to strengthen joint coordination and information exchange.

During the meeting, participants discussed the agendas one by one respectively on prevailing child protection context, provided updates on ongoing activities, highlighted major challenges and emerging needs, and identified priority areas requiring collective attention. Participants also agreed on. coordinated follow-up actions aimed at improving the availability and quality of protection services for vulnerable children and families throughout South West State.

The meeting was coordinated by Mohamed Abdirahman on behalf of SCWRW. It brought together child protection partners from CSO members, government institutions, and international NGOs to strengthen coordination, information sharing, and collaboration. Through the meeting agenda, participants reviewed the current child protection situation, shared updates on ongoing interventions, identified key challenges and emerging priorities, and agreed on coordinated actions to enhance the delivery of quality protection services for vulnerable children and families across South West State.

In partnership with Save the Children in Somalia and under the Danida SPA Programme, SCWRW Somalia successfully conducted a week-long training and orientation for 10 Social Work graduates selected for a pilot field internship program.

As part of its strategic partnership with the University of Southern Somalia, SCWRW is strengthening the professional development of future social workers by establishing a structured internship pathway for recent graduates. This initiative provides participants with supervised, hands-on field experience under the mentorship of experienced practitioners, enabling them to apply academic knowledge in real-world settings while building the practical skills and competencies required for effective social work practice.

The pilot internship program represents an important step toward strengthening collaboration with Baidoa-based universities offering Social Work degrees and creating sustainable, structured field placement opportunities that prepare graduates for impactful careers in the social work sector.

In partnership with Save the Children in Somalia and under the Danida SPA Programme, SCWRW Somalia successfully conducted a Cluster Coordination Meeting at the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development (MOFHRD) in June 2026.

The meeting brought together CSO cluster members to strengthen coordination and collaboration on protection interventions. Participants reviewed key protection issues in line with the meeting agenda, shared updates on ongoing activities, discussed emerging trends and operational challenges, and agreed on coordinated actions to enhance the effectiveness and quality of the protection response.

In partnership Save the Children in Somalia and under the Danida Programme, SCWRW Somalia is supporting and strengthening two Child-Friendly Spaces (CFSs) to promote children's well-being and uphold their fundamental right to play.

These safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments provide children with opportunities to engage in structured recreational and play-based activities while accessing quality psychosocial support (PSS) services.

Through these interventions, the project fosters resilience, promotes emotional recovery, strengthens positive social interactions, and supports the holistic development of vulnerable children, enabling them to thrive in a safe and protective environment.
